probably the most soulless album ive ever heard. Some argue “hey, it?s fun” but they arent even trying to be unique with
these covers. They?re just taking generic meme songs that were trending in 2019 so that casuals could go “omg weezer
covered take on me???” you can look up weezer and find a wide variety of diverse bands that influenced their sound, like
sonic youth, sebadoh, metallica, slayer, ramones, cheap trick, kiss, the cars, talking heads, etc. why not cover those?
Instead they’re taking songs and literally SAMPLING them, not covering; at that point, this is just a karaoke album. And
did it even work? Are kids jamming Weezer’s version of Africa?

So Weezer cashed in on the popularity of the Africa cover and made a cover album. I've only
listened to a few songs, but I've figured out their execution for covers by now. These covers feel
like they were thrown together without much thought about what they were actually trying to
accomplish, and quite a lot of the time the instruments seem to kind of blend together in a sloppy
way where in the original songs the instrumentation feels simple and tight. They also seem to
mess with key elements of the original songs, like turning down the keyboard riff in "Take on Me,"
and changing the drum beat in "Happy Together." All these songs accomplish is showing that
Weezer can play these songs in kind of their own style, and you certainly won't want to listen to
them over the originals. Thanks for the effort boys, but can we just have the Black Album already?
