A bloated album, with pointless pompous interludes that are impossible to take seriously. However, "Praise the Name of Satan" is simply Akercocke's best song, blending their earlier extremity with their later progressive sound. "Leviathan", "Valley of the Crucified" and "Son of the Morning" are also very interesting tracks. The rest are either interludes or incredibly mediocre "heavy" tracks - four of the tracks here sound like they have the same intro for crying out loud!

Upon purchasing this album, I was very let down. As a big fan of Akercocke, I always expect top notch tracks all the way through and little to no predictable songs. I've tried so hard to get into this CD and it just isn't working. There are way too many time fillers that don't accomplish the unique musical atmosphere that they're famous for(they're just kind of... there.) All in all, the only notable tracks are Leviathan and Becoming the Adversary, which make up for most of what the album lacks as a whole, but I didn't buy the CD for two good songs. Choronzon is a definite turning point for the band, so I don't think that the problem lies in a lack of effort, rather, it was the start of a new direction for the band that needed a lot of fine tuning(perfected in the following albums).
