Rising from the ashes of the UK's Salem Orchid, Akercocke is possibly the greatest black/death metal fusion to ever grace the metal scene. Though much of their notoriety comes from their satanic and sexual themes as well as appearing in formal attire (the band believes in dressing well while playing well), their music is the highest quality extreme metal. They feature a vast array of sounds ranging from absolutely crushing riffs to memorable interludes to beautiful melodies. To portray the band with a terrifying image are vocals with inhumanly low growls, ear-piercing shrieks, and haunting clean singing. Whether it's taking death metal to new levels of brutality or black metal to unexplored realms of raw atmosphere, Akercocke only becomes better and more creative as time marches on, as 2005's Words That Go Unspoken, Deeds That Go Undone has plainly shown the world. « hide
