The second half is some of the best funk you'll ever hear, but nobody really cares about that half of the album. The first track is where it's at, right? Not since Hendrix's version of Star Spangled Banner had a guitarist said so much in just one song - and Eddie Hazel may even have surpassed ol' Jimi here. On George Clinton's orders, for 5 minutes, he plays like his mother's just died, and then for the next 5, he plays like she's come back to life. Testament to Clinton's 'unorthodox' methods? Nah. It's testament to Hazel's talent, because he fucking NAILS it. To call it the best guitar solo of all time is almost to insult it - it's above and beyond the art form. When I got this album, it took me 2 whole weeks to get over that track. Imagine my delight when I found out that the rest of the album was almost as good.

There's a world of difference between Maggot Brain and Parliament's Mothership Connection. While the latter is a straightforward funk bomb, the former is an experiment of sorts, a hybrid of musical ideas. It might not appeal to all, but it's certainly interesting enough.

While Sly & the Family Stone were out changing the world Funkadelic were in the studio having fun and recording some of the best Funk material ever to be recorded. George Clinton is one crazy mother fucker, but he is a musical genius as well. I mean "Maggot Brain" is so emotional that nothing else really compares to it. Eddie Hazel is a master of his craft and proved it with his masterful solo on "Maggot Brain". While the rest of the album cannot live up to "Maggot Brain" it is still the best funk album of all time. There are no bad tracks on this album and it shall go down as the definitive funk album. NOT "There's A Riot Goin' On".

This is one of the best funk albums that you will ever hear! Everybody should have a listen to "maggot brain"(track 1), said track is one of the lush and chilled out pieces of music you are ever likely to hear!

Let me just say that the late, great Eddie Hazel(1950-1992), TRULY left a legacy behind. He excelled at what he did.
"Maggot Brain" is by far the best Funkadelic album EVER!
Eddie's legacy, brilliance, and wizardry was left behind by
Glenn Lamonte Goins(1954-1978),
Michael "Kidd Funkadelic" Hampton, Garry Shider, and
Dewayne "Blackbyrd" McKnight.

The title track is absolutely phenomenal, and is an absolute must-listen. Besides that, the vast majority of this project is very solid, with You and Your Folks, Me and My Folks being one of my personal favourites. However, Wars of Armageddon is a slight drop in quality and is an unfortunate way to end the album.
