| 3.0 good | MuZack95 | January 18th 17 | Would be an excellent record if these fuckers knew how to write a song. I mean, come on. They've had Kurt Ballou at the helm for 3 records, they've got plenty of energy and dynamics, but I just can't stand the lazy transitions and unashamedly repetitive riffs that have almost nothing to do with each other. Also what's with all the discount Trent Reznor worship?

| 2.0 poor | botb | January 13th 17 | An album written by a band who wears all their influences firmly on their sleeve. The unfortunate part is they can't seem to come to any conclusion on how to meld their influences into anything particularly cohesive. There is disembodied worship, there is godflesh worship, there's merzbow worship, there's what sounds like sepultura meets fear factory worship, and none of it really seems anymore put together than a kid who played final fantasy 8, loved and worshipped it, and then shoddily duct taped a kitchen knife to a nerf gun and told everyone he made his very own gunblade..

| 3.0 good | Alabaster Jones | April 30th 17 | While Forever is a step up from the relatively homogenous and tiring I Am King, it would seem that Code Orange can't quite find a sound they want to go with. A lot of things here seem almost like they're being thrown against the wall to see what sticks. There's influences from industrial, grunge, and of course the sludge/hardcore hybrid they played so passionately and charmingly in their early days, but none of these styles are particularly implemented all that well here. The vocals are pretty great and the production is loud and punishing, but from a songwriting standpoint there's just too many puzzling things going on from the awkward transitions to the seemingly half-baked ideas of crossing genres. It's really nice that they have some ambition and it's admirable that they attempt to bring that to fruition, but it's well short of the mark with this record. There's still potential to build on, though.

| 2.0 poor | cjbizzlebizzle | March 24th 17 | Ambitious album with an interesting blend of genres. Unfortunately that is about the best thing to say about Code Orange's Forever. The most glaring downfall is the songwriting. Metalcore, Industrial, Sludge and Hardcore elements are just thrown together seemingly at random. Transitions between each section are just abrupt and it forces the listener to think the artist is trying way to hard to mix genres for the sake of mixing genres. The production for the most part is good creating a very, very heavy mix but it falls short with the vocals leaving them in some weird zone where it feels like I am listening to them with a winter hat over my ears. Code Orange has some clear talent and aspirations but this album is just too much of a hodge podge of genres lacking clear planning.

| 2.5 average | TheManMachine | February 11th 17 | I applaud its labored over low-end crushing heaviness and appreciate their apparent ambition for a band whose sound mostly just conveys moshing and/or breaking jaws. And guitar-n-vocal fx that sound like a cat attack or shots of static or malfunctioning electrical equipment, sure, I'm in. So given the number of awkward+unnecessary transitions and dubious dives into industrial electro/singular almost-indie-pop moment/plainspoken vox that make this quite the jumble, I suppose I'll consider ambition chief culprit. But the taxing tough-guy throat shredding, those same ol 'chug chug really high note' chestnuts, the trudges through foreseen breakdowns while gettin' called a motherfucker before 'em -- eventually and predominately, just kind of a tedious demeanor either way.

| 4.0 excellent | AlphaGoon | October 30th 18 | This album's chaotic and evil sound does not let up for its entire run time, even in some of its softer moments. The vocals are harsh and relentless, and the guitars are crushing and hectic. The tasteful use of electronics and experimentation with sudden and extremely short complete stoppage of sound makes this album truly unique in the genre, and add immensely to its eerie and unsettling nature. Some of the lyrics are a little overly angsty, and some of the riffs/songs outshine others, but overall this is a very solid modern hardcore record, and has me looking forward to whatever they release next.

| 2.0 poor | MegaResurrectedJake4 | February 7th 17 | Pretty disappointing throughout. Really annoying writing choices. Why all the hasty transitions? Like are they going for surprise over and over? Has a couple dope sections here and there, like 1 part in Real and 1 part in Spy, but even those songs end up kinda sucking. they sound real hard at times tho.

| 3.0 good | Xenorazr | January 31st 17 | As an outsider to hardcore music, this one leaves me scratching my head. I like that there's at least some variety to the tracks, but I'm confused as to what point the awkward shifts and transitions actually serve. Is it simply meant to keep listeners confused and on their toes? If so, it succeeds, I guess.

| 2.0 poor | helti | January 20th 17 | Nothing here catches my attention for longer than the time it takes to understand what kind of genre is being mixed in. None of the ideas or mixing are particularly captivating or interesting and the album just kind of falls flat on trying to sound extreme. Favorite track: The Mud

| 3.0 good | Arditi | June 26th 19 | I don't mind diversity within an album, but this is just outright nauseating. Any song that stuck to the hardcore handbook was awesome, especially the title track. But the industrial tracks seem so out of place, and the female vocalist was an unpleasant surprise. No, I don't dislike female vocals, I just think this particular record could've done without.

| 2.5 average | AcmeApathyAmok | December 29th 17 | Some good moments/riffs here and there, but its awkward, questionable, blue ball'd transitions
plagues this album for me. They have potential to be great, but their songwriting needs tons of
improvement. Ballou's production is fantastic as always. Maybe unrelated, but unfortunately,
whatever cred they might have is "Forever" (pun intended) ruined by their comically cringy stage
presence live based off of when I saw them open for Dillinger Escape Plan's final show.
