It's fine, but it's not as moving or engaging as the original. The trumpet is absent, the guitar intertwining is less inventive, and though Kinsella's vocals have improved in pitch, they aren't as endearing (I suppose that was unavoidable, though). Overall, the new American Football is expectedly pleasant, though somewhat lukewarm. I suppose we should be thankful it exists at all, though.

back and make an album that matches the quality of a record that many say defines an entire genre

After listening through the album a few times its definitely different to the debut, which is
obviously going to happen since its been 17 years. Most songs do still have that AF vibe to them,
dont worry the trumpets are there, though few and far between. Some songs, especially Home Is
Where The Haunt Is do sound pretty much like Owen. The inclusion of ambient pads is very
welcome and differently accentuates certain songs. No instrumental songs which is a bummer
but, overall, excellent album with a lot of standout moments throughout. Its not on the same level
as the debut and thats perfectly fine. You done good AF.

It's not bad but I was never that into their first one in the first place, never mind a 17 year follow-up that doesn't quite match up. But still, it can be cool sometimes to see titans get up and stretch their legs a bit from their sleep, for however brief the stretch, or the enjoyment it provides, may be.
