Rules, as expected. Arctic Thunder culminates all of Darkthrone's styles over the years into one insanely good record, with some new doses of slow and dark doom metal that Ted and Fenriz have injected into the mix.

There's one constant with Darkthrone: riffs are tasty. Arctic Thunder doesn't derogate from the rule, even bringing back some black metal and doom metal into their largely 2010s heavy metal material. Riffz, as always, even though this one is much slower than the preceding crust-influenced records.

Darkthrone be Darkthrone. It's been a long interruption in me binge so this isn't too fair to compare to my ratings on their other albums. But with these I can't help feeling if it weren't for the name Darkthrone their average rating would be a tad lower. Yet I fall into the same trap m/ This is fun stuff, less riffy than its predecessor, and a bit slower too perhaps with not much I'll retain overall. 1 and 3 especially starts things off a bit meh, but 2 is cool although it kind of overextends, 4-5 are a bit better, then 6-7 are just run of the mill stuff and 8 is a bore imo. Yeah not one I really plan on coming back to much. 2.9

definitely not focused on speed anymore but rather on some doomy aspects. Also nice hard rock
riffs and punk drumming. Nothing is overwhelming in any aspect (technique or brutality) but still

As someone who believes Darkthrone fell off immediately after Panzefaust, I don't doubt that they will unfortunately make mediocre music until they die considering they haven't put out a good album in 20 years
