Interesting indie/folk/grunge kinda vibe...not to be mean but a poorman's St.Vincent "Actor". It just doesn't have as much of a soul like that album did. It seems honest, but not breathtakingly honest. Also, is not memorable in a long lasting way, like a month or two kinda way.

The best Mitski project in my personal opinion, constant up-beat rhythms, catchy melodies, melancholy feelings, plenty of distortion and just overall beautiful. Feel it's unfair to say she peaked here, because she's just doing different stuff now but it doesn't get better than this. Constant banger after banger, reminds me a lot of Andrew Jackson Jihad with less woe-is-me and in your face counter-culture blues. Just an extremely potent listen from start to finish, no misses, no skips, no meh. This is what made me care about Mitski.. I heard industry plant rumors and a incessant stan-culture around her on social media so I went in expecting mid. Was pleasantly surprised and now she's currently one of my favorite artists from this generation.

For me Mitski is basically the most emotional songwriter, and this album proves it. There is so much emotion in the vocals and lyrics, it's almost unbearable at times. Instrumentals and tunes are also great, but could be better on some tracks.

Puberty 2 was my first Mitski album and is still my favorite. It's such a good blend of her later more lo-fi work and the more produced stuff she's putting out now. I love Mitski best at her softest, and there are plenty of soft, sad songs on Puberty 2 for me to get emotional and nostalgic with. It can be a little emotionally intense to sit alone with, but it's worth it.

Puberty 2 accomplishes more in 31 minutes than most long-winded, similar releases are capable of doing in an hour or more. Mitski blends indie rock, pop and even a bit of punk and shines all around with enough song variety to give this album some of the highest replay value of albums in recent memory. One of the keys to this is Mitski's different vocal styles ranging from the melancholic approach to Once More to See You to the abrasive and loud chorus of My Body's Made of Crushed Little Stars. The album's introspective lyrics cover issues from racial stereotypes to feelings of being lost and depressed and Mitski does well weaving these topics into both somber and more upbeat tracks. Dan the Dancer and Your Best American girl are superb highlights with the latter being one of the best tracks of 2016.

Mitksi Miyawaki's newest album is a sequel of sorts to her 2014 release "Bury Me at Makeout Creek." While her DIY punk/garage rock sound hasn't changed much, "Puberty 2" digs even deeper emotionally, with Mitski searching for what happiness is to her at this point in her life. She isn't sure if it's to be found in relationships, what others think of her, or somewhere else entirely. The songs on the album range from quiet slow burners like "Once More to See You" to the abrasive and in-your-face "My Body's Made of Crushed Stars." Lead single "Your Best American Girl" captures the feeling and sentiment of this album perfectly. - FAVORITE TRACKS: Happy, Dan the Dancer, Your Best American Girl, Thursday Girl, Crack Baby
