Good, but way too long and not dreamy or ambient or engaging enough to really keep me interested for that long. For their more ambient-oriented music the length works fine, but for their more post-rock-y stuff it kind of drags. And this album in particular doesn't hit as hard as their previous works, exacerbating the problem a little. Still, it's a Hammock album, and Hammock don't make bad albums.

Hammock's formula is well-known by now: post-rock and ambient fight to get the most attention from the real star: the stringz. Of course, Everything and Nothing is a beautifully soothing listen. It's a Hammock record.

Everything and Nothing sees Hammock free up their sound after a series of even more atmospherically focused albums, with the direction favoring more of a traditional, light rock sound than before. The results are still affecting and poignant, but for different reasons. It doesn't feel like the band are aiming to drown you in their usual ambient surges, but instead seek to elevate you in a way that feels more fun and, dare I say, light-hearted. As always, however, this is done with delicacy and the earnestness that Byrd and Thompson have become known for is in equally high supply here. It may catch a few listener's off-guard, but it will definitely be for the better.

The perfect music to fall asleep to, and I mean that in the best way possible. The compositions feel hazy with gentle guitars, echoing vocals, fuzzy distortion, and more to create clouds of sound to float away on. Everything and Nothing carries the listener and drifts with a stillness, easing into colorful, dream-like landscapes. It all makes for a serene and uplifting experience.

A huge album. So many ideas, moods, atmospheres. The overall vibe is a little bit more accessible, but somehow it works just so well. After rather disappointing Oblivion Hymns, Hammock is back stronger than ever.

An easy contender for post rock album of the year, Everything and Nothing is Hammock honing in on their most
direct and accessible sound in years. The ambient soundscapes that have dominated their recent albums are in
full effect, but here they're aided by more soaring post rock strings, guitars, and driving percussion than have
ever been present in their sound. Hearkening back to the instrumentals of Kenotic and Raising Your Voice... With
the brilliant atmospherics of Departure Songs, adding in a heaping of ethereal vocals on a handful of tracks
makes Everything and Nothing not only the band's most realized and full sounding album to date, but also
arguably their best. In a discography as expansive and consistently good as Hammock's, that's no small feat.
