Basically a Death Metal demo with BM vocals. The instrumental section for this album was written recorded in 1991, meant to be a follow-up to Darkthrone?s Death Metal debut. It was scrapped after a stylistic change, and released later with overdubbed vocals. It?s alright, but nothing special and the BM production doesn?t fit the style.

blaze in the northern sky was bad enough but imagine this horseshit became every poseurs introduction to bm, progdeath riffs flapping all over the place with a black slapstick veneer, horrible. nice female vox tho fez

Goatlord is Darkthrone's first serious misstep. Some bizarre vocal choices on here that are both annoying and distracting. There are some decent moments, but the production is so muddled that even those moments don't go over well

I do realise this was recorded far before its release date, but even compared to Soulside Journey it is very weak. There are some redeeming riffs here and there, but overall the muddy prod, ridiculous elements such as those weird feminised vox, and the overall lack of anything really for the mind to grab onto makes this just a blurred mess of debutante material that I don't see much interest in beside historical. I guess 8 and 10 are kinda nice in between the ridonkulous vox. 2.5

the drumming on this is absolutely phenomenal, but that's quite a shame since pretty much everything else is just embarrassing

'and flowers remain - flowers to step on! flowers to burn!' epic. the production is shitty, the drumming isn't too shabby. this album sort of reminds me of black sabbath's early music, but without the blues. the 'female' vocals are so bad theyre funny. the drumming is pretty interesting compared to darkthrone's other work.
