 | jimthefish yo check out the new Self Insert EP, you'd probably have fun reviewing it. eclectic mix of intense electronic, hiphop and emo-ish rock. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbIlkN-iFb0
 | LogicTumble Hey man - Seen that you're a big fan of Listener - I've just booked tickets for when they're in London! If you're into the spoken word music vibe, I'd love to know what you think of my album: https://joshuathorne.bandcamp.com/album/dear-listener . The sput page is: http://www.sputnikmusic.com/bands/Joshua-Thorne/90709/ . If you could write a review that would be amazing, but if not I'd love to just know what you think!
 | kylemccluskey hey thanks for your feedback man, I made some edits.
 | ExplosiveOranges yo, would you mind if i emailed you in the near future to talk about something?
 | ScuroFantasma Oh okay no worries man, I'll add you. Maybe in a year or two when you pick it back up again we can talk.
 | ScuroFantasma Hey dude, don't mean to pry but I unintentionmaly saw that you started learning German around the same time as I did. I've been doing duolingo and memrise in conjunction with some youtube vids but I'm starting my Uni course on German this semester too, so if you ever want to converse with another amateur I'm around (:
 | Sowing I appreciate your end of year list. It's nice to have some albums that are actually different to peruse over the holiday. Especially excited to check out 1, 3, and that one with the foxes on the cover.
 | RadicalEd Yeah I'm from germany. So obviously I never had to learn the (bloody complicated) language the hard way, so I don't know if I'm the best person to ask. My girlfriend had to learn a bit of dutch though and she did in with a online course on "babbel.com" which was good according to her. (They charge you a fee though) Other than that I really don't know any good resources sorry.
 | Yuli haha dudeee i hate it so much. so tame and tepid gahh
 | Sowing looking forward to your take on frank turner...we have identical ratings for it
 | beachdude I'll definitely check that one out then, thanks!
 | beachdude I get that, it definitely doesn't live up to its full potential and there's some pretty cringe-y moments. I see you checked out the new mewithoutYou album... never really listened to them, would you know a good place to start?
 | beachdude Great Refused piece man! You echoed a lot of points in my review... I had a difficult time rating the album and I'm guessing you did as well.
 | StrangerofSorts Not too familiar with Sweet Trip, but I'll have a go at cool electronic/guitar hybrids - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3y_nP8GGGdY // https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbGO8OGwOhc (100% guitar sounds, somehow...) // https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8A7AjqyeHlQ // https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tv8Se8xSMiw // https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IN4d2YfnuXc (less electronic, but still cool for a one man band)
 | NordicMindset anything specific about my Incubus review that could use a little work?
 | oahmed thanks for the feedback! I have been trying to take more time with my reviews, so I am glad it reads that way. Cheers!
 | oahmed Hey Dan, if you get the chance, would you mind checking out my review for Late of the Pier? You mentioned I could ask for feedback after my first review, so I figured I'd ask. Thanks in advance and congrats on becoming a staff reviewer.
 | cryptside Mind checking my newest review when you get the chance? You're a good person for determining if a personal review is questionable or not.
 | cryptside Dammit, it keeps cutting off lol. Anyways, I am very excited for the new album.
 | cryptside Ah, weird. Didn't see that. I was just saying that Coyotes reminded me of M
 | cryptside I love Coyotes, thought Lampshade was boring though. Coyotes reminded me a little more of M
 | NordicMindset never leave we must always have a thrice-related username on staff
 | beachdude Thanks man, I'd appreciate that a lot.
 | cryptside Also, nice rating for The Lonesome Crowded West. ;)
 | cryptside Thanks dude, I appreciate all of the help and support throughout last year. It definitely means quite a bit.
 | ScuroFantasma Congrats on the promotion Vheissu, you're one of my favourite writers here so Im glad you got it.
 | Jots congrats on the promotion, Dan
 | cryptside Totally thought that I sauntered over to your shoutbox before to congratulate you on making Staff, but it seems I didn't. I knew you'd get it though. You're totally deserving of it, that's for sure. :]
 | beachdude Well that's good! How long were you a contributor if you don't mind me asking?
 | Gnocchi Good work mate, you worked well for that promotion
 | beachdude Congrats on making staff man! You may not know me but I've always enjoyed your writing
 | Gnocchi Probably the most cohesive record they've made. Everything snaps together, it's not perfect (it probably never will be) but for 36cf it's the best they have done. A few big calls considering the group's relevance so many years ago.
 | cryptside Thanks dude, I am certainly hoping for it but I will obviously still write regardless.
 | cryptside Just to let you know, I really hope that they promote you to staff buddy. You're more than deserving of it.
 | Naomi Lores I see what you're saying; stating it directly gives it more confidence. Thanks again, I'll keep the advice in mind for my future reviews.
 | Naomi Lores Good Afternoon! I saw your feedback on my Punch Brothers review, and I wanted to get some clarification as I'm a bit new to music reviewing in general. When you suggested avoiding 'I', does that mean avoiding any first-person POV within reviews? I'd appreciate any help, thanks! (Also, thanks for the pos!)
 | ExplosiveOranges Thanks, dude. Less than a week till apps close out. Fingers crossed.
 | ExplosiveOranges Just noticed that you applied for staff. Definitely hope you get the position, man.
 | Arcade you're going to have to have the displeasure of adding me to become a member lol
 | Arcade it won't let me add you via email, i can try your fb link instead, that should work
 | Arcade kewl, just fire me your email and i'll add you in
 | cryptside Haha it's understandable though. I can definitely understand that it isn't as ground-breaking to some. It's just so lyrically incredible.

 | Gyromania that means a lot to me, my friend =] although i think my resolve has been weakening considerably lately. where a month ago i had surprising strength and took on all of the financials and other huge responsibilities i now find myself feeling weak and without hope. i want to make it through this, it's just very difficult
 | Gyromania thanks for the message, dan - unfortunately it seems to have been cut off after " spend much of my life (work" = /
 | Jots cheers. tried to take your advice and whittle down the nonsense and add a bit more straightforward stuff lol, thx for the input man
 | Jots Hey Dan. Made a couple changes if you care to look and lemme know if it's a slight improvement. Not a complete overhaul (will do that later when I get home) but yeah.. thoughts?
 | Futures hey man i think you would love the new damien rice album! seems like something thats right up your ally! its one of the best albums i've heard in a long time.
 | cryptside Ah, well I appreciate the vote of confidence. It would be nice to have the tag for sure, if enough people think I'm deserving of it. It came with a decent pay bump, but the opportunity is there for much more once I take advantage of everything that I am learning.
 | cryptside I'm psyched to hear about the job, man! Congratulations! I kind of took a sabbatical from here to focus on learning everything I can about my new position at work. It's way more technical, so there is still a ton to learn but I really enjoy the work and the people I work with. I will definitely be on here with more regularity now though.
 | ExplosiveOranges Exam season approaching, haha. Glad to hear you've gotten a new job, though. Obviously, real life takes precedence over Sputnik.
 | ExplosiveOranges Damn dude, I haven't seen you around for a while. How's life treating you?
 | Jots you know that dino jr review is a joke... right? that album was released before anything the counting crows put out, lol
 | Futures Ah that's a shame. They are becoming one of my favorite bands. Got any 2014 recs then?
 | ExplosiveOranges Hey dude, just saw your comment on my Acres rev. It seems like most people aren't fans of that first paragraph, so I will definitely change that around a bit.
 | Futures Thanks man! I wish I could review more but I really don't have the time currently. Got any recs for some stuff like Interpol?
 | Futures Your taste is great and your reviewing is incredible. Love the write up for El Pintor.
 | ExplosiveOranges Well, nothing lasts forever, and school's begun for me, so I have less time to spend here. But I love this website and its userbase, so I'll definitely be around for a while to come.
 | ExplosiveOranges Just saw your comment on my ASD rev. Thanks for the kind words. I think I've really started to define my voice.
 | cryptside Very nice, man! Agreed that the lyrics are among the best things in regards to this album. I'm glad you liked the album so much, I have a feeling it will be one that I come back to for a very long time.
 | bodiesinflight57 Oh sorry didn't see the "How" bit! I have a press copy is the actual answer to your question.
 | cryptside Haha I get that, vocals can be a huge turn-off for these guys. I just listened to this cd on the way home from work though.
 | cryptside Latterman at a 2.5?! What is this?!
 | Jots Hey man could you offer me a couple tips to improve my reviewing?
 | cryptside Totally agreed, man. I think we're just on the same wavelength though.
 | cryptside What I take from the opening line is this: The humdrum day-to-day activities are at their most poignant when they are stripped of their pomps and frills, so to speak. When looking at it from the most base of perspectives, you see those hardships with more of an edge than one normally would.
 | cryptside Yeah, no worries haha. Gyro can be a bit on the critical side, but there is something to be said for using tact when giving criticism. If I found something inherently wrong with a review, I don't hesitate to constructively provide criticism. That being said, it seems as though his issues were stated as if they were an absolute fact, and that's a fallacy in itself.
 | ExplosiveOranges Great! Let me know what you think! I'll warn you, Porcupine Tree isn't really "light" in the traditional sense, but I think you'll be able to get into it.
 | cryptside Yeah, Living Will is one of the best on there, so cathartic for sure. I'm glad you're liking it, my friend! Have you heard the band Barrow?
 | cryptside Sweet dude! Glad to hear you've had the chance to check it!
 | cryptside hey man, have you had the chance to check the Manners lp?
 | ExplosiveOranges In that case, I would recommend Porcupine Tree's In Absentia, Queensryche's Operation Mindcrime, and Dream Theater's Images and Words for lighter stuff, and Opeth's Blackwater Park, Death's Symbolic, and Katatonia's The Great Cold Distance for darker, more extreme stuff.
 | ExplosiveOranges Oh boy. Progressive metal is full of variety, so it's kinda difficult to really give you a proper rec. I always preferred darker stuff like Opeth, but they have a lot of death metal influences, so I'm not sure if you'll be into that. The other big hitters are Queensryche, Dream Theater, and Fates Warning, but I'm not too familiar with the last two........ Are you looking for a light-hearted or dark, heavy sound?
 | ExplosiveOranges Looking for a good intro band? You've come to the right place, my friend! What type of sound are you going for?
 | ExplosiveOranges I've only heard some stuff off of Vheissu, but it's good. Really good. Not sure what to rate it yet, but I'll check out some more of their stuff first to compare.
 | cryptside Yeah, I love Tim's vocals, and everything seems to coalesce on that release.
 | cryptside hey dude, checked The Sufferer and the Witness, really top-notch stuff.
 | cryptside Hey friend, posted a new review tonight. Would love your thoughts when you have a chance!
 | ExplosiveOranges Will do. I'll also check out Thrice, because........ Well, your username is based off of two of their album titles.
 | ExplosiveOranges Nice Rise Against review, man. Been meaning to get into more indie/emo/punk rock, so I'll definitely give those guys a listen.
 | Mad. Damn man I forgot to send those sheets to you and now I'm on holiday for a month, if you remember in about a month's time, shoutbox me and I'll send em to you!
 | Mad. Hayell yeah I got the whole album tabbed! Most fun to play are Fear and Loathing, Umbra and Contagion. Want me to try and send them to you?
 | ExplosiveOranges Definitely. It'll take some luck and a lot of writing, but hopefully it'll pay off.
 | ExplosiveOranges Makes sense. Still, it'd be cool to see some of the contributors on the site write on a more frequent basis. I can understand why they can't due to time constraints in their personal life, though. Got any review ideas cooking?
 | ExplosiveOranges Thanks for the kind words, mate. I'm surprised you don't write more.
 | Mad. Thanks man, it's my favourite album of all time, so it's definitely worth your time
 | boredcore Thx Dude, here's the link: http://alexchilltown.bandcamp.com/ if yr a fan of it, (even if you don't have time to review it) lemme know and I'll send you a free copy x
 | boredcore Hi man, hope yr Well, sorry to bother you but I noticed you like a lot of cool stuff and I wonder if you had time if you'd be able to review my record? if not, then it's completely fine :) x
 | cryptside Haha hell yeah man. Had a ratings reset, and realized that I hadn't rated any of their stuff. I love Isaac Brock haha
 | cryptside hey man, checked out cloud nothings' newest, and it's some great stuff. Really enjoying it.
 | cryptside hey dude, mind giving my newest review a look when you get a chance?
 | SHAKEandBAKE Circa is cool, though I've never been a huge fan of Anthony's voice. Some people love it though. To each their own I suppose.
 | SHAKEandBAKE Also Lydia's Illuminate is my favorite album of all-time, so I always have to rec that as well haha.
 | SHAKEandBAKE Thanks man. Will download each of these. Used to love Silverstein back in the day haha. As for recs, I've really been digging Hrvrd lately. It has hints of post-hardcore, but is more laid-back a la Circa Survive. Check out The Inevitable and I if you get a chance.
 | SHAKEandBAKE Hey man, I've been away from this site for a while but I recognized your username. We used to exchange rec's back in the day. I've been slacking on new music for a while, any suggestions?
 | PitchforkArms thanks man! really appreciate the feedback. hopefully more to come, eh?
 | aok morning phase better than guero? bro u cray
 | cryptside Thanks, man! I appreciate the encouragement!
 | Brostep MD repre-zent! Congrats to you too!
 | cryptside Hey man, congratulations on the promotion. Early on you gave me some positive feedback, and I have been following your reviews. I like your writing style quite a bit, so congrats!
 | Crysis Congrats on the promotion!
 | Yuli Hey Dan! Would you be interested in a writing position on MuzikDizcovery? e-mail me at jacobroyal@muzikdizcovery.com for more information if so =]
 | tommygun Awesome dude, the difference between your 3.0 and my 4.5 should make for much better contrast than if you went 3.5 and I went 4.0!
 | tommygun Hey man my PBX review is up, I listened to it twice more this morning and settled on a 4.5, I truly love this record. Can't wait to read your counterpoint
 | tommygun I really really like Guitar, Mistakes, Uprane, Sam, and Sum. So basically the whole second half haha. Ratiug is great but the rapped verse feels tacked on. I really liked the rapping on FM but it doesn't really fit on Ratiug. I look forward to reading your review man
 | tommygun Hey buddy! Apart from the first two tracks I am completely in love with it... My head says 4 but my inner fanboy says 4.5! Still I'm the honeymoon phase though so realistically will probably settle on a 4. What are you thinking of rating it?
 | natey The Tallest Man on Earth, Okkervil River (especially down the river of golden dreams), moving MOuntains - pneuma, Women's "Public Strain", Deerhunter's "Halycon Digest", Beirut, The Weakerthans' "Left
 | robin yes. get 'michigan'. x
 | Bitchfork To be honest I have no ****ing idea.
 | DaveyBoy Check out My fave Bands list on my profile. The first 10 or so are roughly in order. I am certain you have already heard them all.
 | BrodieGron Sweet, i'll have a look, Meridional is their latest and a nice mixture of all the other efforts. When i first started listening the hardest thing to get used to is Cory's scream/sing. But give it a chance.
 | BrodieGron Thrice's heaviest album, Thrice's lightest album?Always wanted to get into them, but always been busy with other music.
 | alachlahol go to Edit My Profile Options below your avatar and make sure your Favorite Bands box and other options are turned on. that may be why you can't access them. not sure why your digs disappeared, but you are aware of how to dig things in the first place yes?
 | ToWhatEnd If you're looking to get into Silverstein I'd say check out Discovering The Waterfront or A Shipwreck in the Sand. Not too big on them anymore at all but those are the band's two best by far.
 | bodiesinflight57 Yeah I've had a few last.fm chats with him, he's got very good taste.
 | SHAKEandBAKE Hey man sorry I haven't checked this in a while. Anyways make sure you check out Circa Survive's latest, Dance Gavin Dance, and possibly this local band called Your Best Friend. And as far as Emery goes, ...In Shallow Seas We Sail is probably my favorite post-hardcore album of all time. To be honest though I haven't gotten around to the rest of their discography haha.
 | SHAKEandBAKE Hey I'm checking out Ghost of a Thousand right now and I'm liking what I hear. Thanks for the rec. Anyways you gotta check out this band Polar Bear Club. I stumbled upon them a few weeks ago and they are phenomenal.
 | SHAKEandBAKE Hey man how's it going?
I don't listen to a ton of punk but I'd have to say Against Me! is definately my favorite punk band (I'd start with Reinventing Axl Rose and work your way up). Some others I'd recommend are Gallows, The Gaslight Anthem, and the older Offspring stuff. As far as older punk bands, I've only really listened to some Bad Religion and some Social Distortion. Hope this helps
 | luci I thought it was amazing at first but now all I can listen to is Effigy, Losing Battle, Dark Horse, and Axe To Fall. It sort of gets old fast but I still think it's their best since Jane Doe.
 | robin no probs. how are you finding the albums? you'll probably find you connect with alien lanes after about 3 listens if you just keep listening to it through and through. bee thousand is amazing but more disjointed, so it'll take a while, but it'll be worth it - my all time fave album.
 | holyroach ROC deserves teh 5, cos it's so unique and etc.Give it a 5 for me :D
 | holyroach Don't even know what it is.Relationship of Command is easily a 5 man.
 | robin alien lanes bee thousand in whichever order you want
 | roofi A City by the Light Divided is my favorite, but I'm pretty much the only one who thinks that way. Start with Full Collapse; it's their best-known, maybe their most accessible, and it rules, so yeah.
