 | ToSmokMuzyki thank god that link's up forever so everyone can see the absolutely asinine stupidity of sput's balloonhead former staff
 | ashcrash9 you're in NJ, right? going to see Senza and Barrow in Butler on Fri 7/25, $15 at the door, hmu for deets if you have any interest in a very affordable skramz gig meetup. no pressure
 | Rowan5215 I actually did use to fw them back in the day and really liked the first single off the new one so I will be checking that soon for sure. don't really remember their discog too well though
 | Rowan5215 yeah the loss of Cory's lyrics is tough but apparently he's off the grid entirely these days so what else can you do haha. hopefully Kurt will make it slap if nothing else
 | Rowan5215 yea according to the rumour but grain of salt of course. I haven't heard Andy on anything I can remember but Cory's shoes will be v hard to fill lol
 | Rowan5215 you heard those rumours that ALLB have new stuff recorded without Cory? dunno how I feel about it but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't curious
 | nash1311 Dude wow I?m so sorry that?s so brutal and awful. Words feel inadequate at the moment. Hope you and your family are OK. Will keep you in my thoughts
 | nash1311 Yep. Even when it?s time, it?s still so sad
 | nash1311 Saw the Brian Wilson news earlier today and thought of you.
 | sr388 hey dude! was curious where you saw the moving mountains album news? waves is my all time fav record so i was freaking out when i saw your comment in the pneuma thread
 | Rowan5215 Gifts and Curses is ****in unreal, potentially their best song
 | Rowan5215 yes dude the bookends on Say Yes are unbelievable although it loses me hard in the middle. took me a while to vibe with Paper Walls but it's really starting to hit recently as well, last 2 songs are incredible on that
 | Rowan5215 yeah I only really started listening to them after I stopped caring about ratings so much but yeah they rule. Lift a Sail, self-titled and Southern Air is my favourite era fs, the other stuff is very hit or miss but the good stuff is really good. don't love the new songs either but they're okay
 | nash1311 Yes dude! I?m glad you did cause I rec?d it to a few folks and no one liked it as much as me lol. Thought I must be alone :-(
 | tectactoe Aside from the two most obvious answers (Davis and Mingus), if you like the wilder/freer stuff (and it seems like you do/might, with that Ascension 4.5), def check out Ornette Coleman, Cecil Taylor, and Albert Ayler. (Or if you're feeling really daring...Anthony Braxton.) Some of my personal favorites, extremely important artists in the free jazz movement!
 | tectactoe bubs entering his Coltrane era you love to see it
 | veninblazer oh i figured i see u gas em up all the time lol i like to make the south park joke about bono being born a literal #2 but the music I know from them is dece
 | Rowan5215 yes dude I didn't jam it much apart from Even If at the time but that album been hitting hard recently, every song is so good. he sounds better than ever on it too, I hope lp4 is comin soon. It Found a Different Path might be one of the best Kurt songs oat
 | Hawks Oh ok I was wondering if there was a connection between them lol.
 | Hawks Ohhhh both look up my alley! Will jam for sure my brother.
 | Rowan5215 Desperate is one of my favourite songs by anyone, goated chorus
 | Rowan5215 steak is the homie and I trust his taste so hell yea. you and me really the same lmao I've been rinsing Eternity Forever and Everything is Beautiful this week, my housemates are getting sick of it
 | twlight Hey man just ****ing sucks. You?re the man and have always been awesome
 | Hawks One of the most down to earth guys I've ever met. I was asking him all kinds of stuff lol.
 | Hawks He's an awesome dude. We were just bulls***ting about music for the past 40 minutes lol.
 | Hawks Just wanted to let you know Marty (bassist for Zao) is my boss and I told him about Sput and I said my bro Onion loves The Fear is What Keeps Us Here. He said to tell you thanks very much lol. Pretty cool stuff.
 | Rowan5215 damn idk whether I'm more jealous you met Karl or Steak lol both of those rock. I'll give Erra a try soon I am unfortunately on a huge swancore kick at the moment lmao
 | Rowan5215 I **** with Mis Sigs too! not after Controller they fell off hard but that album and Malice are goated
 | Rowan5215 i have not lol for some reason i was under the impression they were like 00s style straight metalcore? more good phxc is always welcome ty for the rec
 | nash1311 Just randomly stumbled upon this band called Melting. Check out their debut EP ?You Exist Because We Allow It?. Filthy
 | FearThyEvil https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snteQqDODMs I didn't expect to see your comment on a video like this lol. I love these type of videos from a curiosity standpoint but I saw the pfp and was like...I recognize that. haha
 | FearThyEvil Oh lol, have fun man! Let me know how the show goes!
 | FearThyEvil Do you have a discord account? It looks like I'll be going Saturday so trying to coordinate a way we can meet there if you go.
 | FearThyEvil Oh that's awesome! My buddy and I go to shows often in Philly whenever we find ones that interest us. Granted though we're like 15 mins away from Philly though.
 | FearThyEvil Oh ok! Yeah I'm still up in the air if I'll be going too so I gotta see. I'll be seeing Deafheaven at Transfer in May though.
 | FearThyEvil Are you from Philly? I just noticed you mentioned seeing Static Dress on saturday which I might be trying to see them as well.
 | nash1311 https://recordstoreday.com/SpecialRelease/18836*drools*
 | ConcubinaryCode If you're still in a scene mood check out go west young man by greeley estates. Its one of my faves from the late 2000s
 | Rowan5215 dude Care For Me is actually a masterpiece imo, PROM-KING might be my favourite rap song of the 2010s. absolutely unreal stuff. Few Good Things and the new one are very good too but the emotional heft isn't quite the same
 | Rowan5215 also nice ratings for Saba and clipping up there you love to see it. both insanely good discogs right there
 | Rowan5215 word man, can't promise it will be soon as life is insane rn but I will put it on the list. always down for a bubs rec
 | Rowan5215 I have not although boysetsfire have been on my radar for probably 15 years since Coheed reference them on their debut just never got around to them lmao
 | twlight You are so right with Cure being a really well produced album. It just sounds so good. You can hear all instruments.
 | nash1311 Like holy hell I might just 5 it and move on with my day lolllll
 | nash1311 Seriously if you need me, just to help carry a burden of some sort, hit me any time and know you have someone who cares about you
 | nash1311 Haha that?s hilarious about the record. So sorry for your current mental state brother hope you?re OK and will keep you in my thoughts and prayers
 | nash1311 Lollll that?s hilarious and cool. Do you work in the music industry?
 | nash1311 I honestly should try their good stuff again. I?m always open to returning to stuff I disliked early on to see how my tastes have changed
 | nash1311 What were you going to ask me if I said yes?
 | nash1311 Haha nope. I?m laughing cause I could never get into them when they were ?big? and then they dropped it-which-will-not-be-named and I felt vindicated bahaha
 | nash1311 I don?t think you?ve missed much. I?m at a loss for new digs. I haven?t checked The Roots but always intended to. Rec a place to start
 | nash1311 That?s exactly why I said it lmao. TBS live is pretty washed I?d prefer something fresh haha
 | nash1311 I?d prob prefer Fred and Eddie do something lol
 | nash1311 Oof. I know it?s impossible to verify anything but I saw someone else said security tries to make sure Mark can?t get into any of their shows and he wasn?t allowed at WWWY fest cause they were worried about his antics and potential endangerment of others. Wild
 | nash1311 Wow. Yeah, that?s crazy. Shifting gears, what you do you think Mark/TBS split? I tried to piece together non-public info from Reddit but that was a nightmare lol. Sounds like a less than amicable split
 | nash1311 That?s really cool. Would be neat if they put out new stuff even if they couldn?t tour
 | nash1311 Daaamn that?s rad I didn?t even know they were together haha
 | nash1311 My man. I haven?t listened in ages, but yes, I used to really dig them. Fiction and Abandon mainly. Am I due for a revisit?
 | Rowan5215 btw on the subject of tv I would highly recommend Arcane if you haven't seen it yet. legit maybe the best animated show I've ever seen
 | Rowan5215 that's genuinely extremely heartwarming to hear lol, my mental has been absolute dogs*** recently and it's very easy to feel like I've just been writing into the void all my time here. it's really nice to know that's not the case at least for one person, so thanks my friend
 | Rowan5215 haha yeah I love that too. almost nobody I know irl has the same taste as me in either of those things so nice to know I'm not totally insane lol. keep it real man
 | Rowan5215 yw brother man it's always a pleasure. and yeah our taste overlap is wild sometimes lol we line up so often on stuff, you love to see it
 | Sunnyvale All good, I get it. Thanks for the heads up!
 | Sunnyvale Just a gentle reminder on the Nala Sinephro blurb - still up for it? Thanks again!
 | ashcrash9 hola senor bubs icymi I released an album last month and I reckon there's a chance it'd be up your alley knowing how our tastes overlap a fair bit. no pressure but if you're interested: https://tinyurl.com/flclalbum
 | Sunnyvale Hey there! Any interest in writing a blurb for Nala Sinephro's release of the month win? If so, please drop a Google Docs link in my Shoutbox when you're done. Thanks!
 | MetalMarcJK Bravo on the U2 song lists! It?s most definitely one of my favorites. I can tell this was a real labor of love for you. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and gift of writing with us.
 | ashcrash9 this All Songs Ranked thing you're doing for U2 I did previously on a personal blog for Jimmy Eat World and Thrice, both of whom I see you've rated a lot of. gonna plug those to ya here if you're at all curious https://tinyurl.com/ithr0837
 | nash1311 Heard that. ATMP was pretty flawless to me. Beatles as a whole were def a perfect storm. Together they were phenom
 | nash1311 No doubt I hear his Beatles influence all over it. Same with GH All Things Must Pass. I feel like Pauls seems a bit more?. Solo artist-y? Like some good ideas and some bad ideas with little editing. But I need to listen more than once and let it grow haha
 | nash1311 Uh can it be both? Haha. When it leans Beatles weird I dig it but then other times it loses me. Not ?bad? really just not scratching an itch. I prob should revisit the whole thing again when I?m more in the mood for weird Beatles vibes
 | nash1311 I have not but it?s on my list! Should it be done ASAP?
 | Rowan5215 ayoo nice one. I'd start with Woodface probably it's their classic for a reason. from there can go back to debut for some raw rock bangers or forwards to Together Alone if you wanna hear em get weird and trippy. frankly there's no bad way to do it I don't think there's a single bad song in their discog
 | Rowan5215 now that your Beach Boys journey is done I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Crowded House discog next. one of the most absurdly underrated bands, especially here
 | nash1311 Hard to say at the moment cause honestly on first pass I loved it all. The only thing that particularly stuck out for me was Out of the Blue which isn?t even a ?real? track since it?s on the Jam disc haha. But it?s all so good and I can?t wait to spin it repeatedly. I was going to ask your faves?
 | nash1311 Dude. I listened to All Things Must Pass. Insta 5
 | Rowan5215 yessir, Tree into Til I Die into Surf might be my favourite closing stretch on any album ngl
 | Rowan5215 yeah I've always jammed Surf with that song and Take a Load cut for 4th of July and Live Again, they did my boy Dennis so dirty with that tracklist lmao
 | Rowan5215 lol a very reasonable thing to get distracted by. loving that rating for POB btw, how ****ing magnificent is that opener
 | Rowan5215 goddamn I'd love that, Derek's voice is the s***. apparently he's back working on solo stuff too atm
 | Rowan5215 bro just saw in a Derek AMA that he wrote All on Black too. first song he wrote with Trio. what a ****ing debut lmao
 | Rowan5215 classic sputnik not even able to handle an ampersand smdh
 | Rowan5215 fr man I took a 3 month break or so from it and came back just before the b-sides leaked coincidentally, it hasn't lost a step for me which is always a great sign. even if they never hit these heights again ittc/bh
 | Rowan5215 I have a feeling Sickness might slot well between Shake and t/t but I haven't tried it yet. def agree that the album just flows perfectly as is, nice to see them nail that again lol
 | Rowan5215 ya Sickness is the clear highlight and the only one I'd actually put on the album probably. Sacrifice has such a good riff but the lyrics are not good lmao
 | Rowan5215 there's some blood hair and eyeballs b-sides floating around brother eye emoji
 | Hawks Gonna jam that Make Them Suffer album now cause yeah Neverbloom ripz. Palm Reader also looks sick!
 | Hawks In a core mood tonight gimme a few recs u think I'd dig bro.
 | Sunnyvale No set time frame, but if you could have it by the end of the month that would be awesome!
 | Sunnyvale Hi onionbubs! Any interest in writing up a short blurb for the Peter Gabriel album which won December's release of the month? If so, just shoutbox me the Google Docs link once ready. Let me know, thanks!
 | ThyCrossAwaits Sweet! Cheers mate. I also just listened to In Utero for the first time all the way through the other day, I feel like I spent so much time digging for weird metal that I missed some more obvious bands hahaha.
 | ThyCrossAwaits So I?ve never really listened to Alkaline Trio like, ever. Is the new one a good one to start with?
 | onionbubs why thank you bubs right back at ya you king
 | Slex Slsk Wrens Album 4.5 demos
 | Rowan5215 try the wrens thread on chorus lol that's where i found it
 | Ryus yeah its interesting to hear, wilder was like ?we gotta make this an uptempo banger? and he was very right
 | Ryus sweeet. that demo seems like its kinda the exception actually, i think most of them were more well-developed and some of them sound pretty similar to the studio versions but still it seems like alan did contribute a lot
 | Ryus lol i figured out wtf alan wilder does in depeche mode. so basically martin would write the demos, and then alan was the arranger so in a way hes kinda the second-pass songwriter and as a result had a ton of influence on their sound. idk if uve heard this but heres a martin demo for example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRyDzc4FF0E
 | bellovddd awesome to hear!! jarreds always been a beast.
 | bellovddd YOOO i remember you were seeing Blessthefall live... how were they if you did see em???
 | twlight It's definitely my favorite IA song with their new singer. I've been quite the critic of the new vocalist but he absolutely kills the new song
 | twlight hey bub, it's wild that the new IA single wasnt included on the album...its titled Heavener...
 | nash1311 Where should I start with Ling Tosite
 | pizzamachine Aight what did you like what needed improvements
 | pizzamachine Hmm okay it?s more like MySpace party time goes hard
 | pizzamachine My music is like 100 Gecs on crack you?ll like it
 | SmashIsTheWay94 Chronological isn't a bad idea. They're the kind of band where it's really interesting to see how they evolved over time. Just be prepared for the early stuff (especially Garlands) to be pretty different from HOLV. I'd say either chronological or knock out Treasure next
 | SmashIsTheWay94 Love's Easy Tears, Aikea-Guinea, Spangle Maker, and Sunburst and Snowblind are all great. Band really has one of the most consistent discogs there is. But tbh there are several EPs I still haven't checked because there are so god damn many lol. But I think on those later ones there's quite a bit of overlap with the LPs
 | SmashIsTheWay94 Well definitely nothing wrong with spending more time with that masterpiece before moving on, but you're in for a treat with the rest of their stuff too. Like I'm kinda jealous that you get to hear Lazy Calm for the first time lol. Some of their EPs are pretty essential too
 | SmashIsTheWay94 Dude sick Heaven or Las Vegas rating. Your only Cocteau Twins so far?
 | Rowan5215 get out of cities is easily the dumbest addition I made lmao but it's a bit of fun in a pretty dark album I think. reminds me of Bugman and BLUREMI a bit
 | Rowan5215 Dancehall is so good, take off the vocals and it's basically doom lmao. think it sets up Essex Dogs well, comes outta nowhere vibes wise on the album
 | Rowan5215 it's so good! they played it live recently which makes me think they eventually realised how good it is
 | Rowan5215 lol ty bubs. some great b-sides in that era, last few even presage the s-t sound a bit which is wild, it's such a jarring transition otherwise. as for s-t I played around with it a lot but finally found one I liked. will pop in the thread for ya
 | JohnnyoftheWell nice parkspam um HI thank you so much for expressing interest in Sputmix 2023! There is one (one!) bureaucracy barrier for you to overcome - please hit up this form and send your info over asap, so I can get a database going and pin down what this thing is gonna look like. Love! https://forms.gle/zkKtidhnXpgYUsUv5
 | parksungjoon The car's on fire and there's no driver at the wheelAnd the sewers are all muddied with a thousand lonely suicidesAnd a dark wind blowsThe government is corruptAnd we're on so many drugsWith the radio on and the curtains drawnWe're trapped in the belly of this horrible machineAnd the machine is bleeding to deathThe sun has fallen downAnd the billboards are all leeringAnd the flags are all dead at the top of their polesIt went like this:The buildings toppled in on themselvesMothers clutching babiesPicked through the rubbleAnd pulled out their hairThe skyline was beautiful on fireAll twisted metal stretching upwardsEverything washed in a thin orange hazeI said, "Kiss me, you're beautifulThese are truly the last days"You grabbed my handAnd we fell into itLike a daydreamOr a feverWe woke up one morning and fell a little further downFor sure as the valley of deathI open up my walletAnd it's full of blood
 | nash1311 I don?t know if I?ve ever posted in your s***box so here I am. Cheers to good taste brother
 | Rowan5215 yeah not a huge fan of Auctioneer or Wendell Gee which does mark Fables down a tiny bit. also tend to skip Give it Away though tbf which is one of the least interesting songs on the first 4 albums for me. Green and Document both feel like EPs padded out to full album length to me lol, if you combined them into one you'd have a pretty great album probably. Green especially is just all over the place and not in a fun way
 | Rowan5215 yea Document is the easy worst lol. just outside my bottom 3 REM albums honestly, Around the Sun and Green are definitely the bottom 2. Fables might actually be my favourite album from the IRS era depending on my mood, it and Pageant are dead even
 | Rowan5215 fair. Monster is so ugly sounding I kinda struggle with it even sober lmao, but I do get that's kinda the point of it. Fables on the other hand sounds like it'd be incredible high, god I love the whole Southern Gothic dreamy blur feel of that album so much. crazy underrated
 | Rowan5215 that sounds pretty great ngl. the one time i did it was at a wild NYE party after a lotta drinking and it was less than optimal lmao. chillin to REM sounds perfect as long as it's not Monster lol
 | Rowan5215 lol nice, I hope you didn?t jam Young Fathers on acid either cos that sounds absolutely terrifying lmao. i also don't know much about film tbh i just watch what looks fun
 | Rowan5215 lol only reason i call it that is because it's the first song i and a lot of others heard from. has a pretty prominent placement on the Trainspotting 2 soundtrack which is a hella underrated movie ftr. killer song though the last 20 seconds of it always get me
 | Rowan5215 hell yeah dude I love to hear it. def the kinda discog that just sinks its claws in over time, never realised I was a fan until it was too late. gonna be basic af and say Dare Me or the whole 27 - Sirens run but it all rules. the bonus track Soon Come Soon is also lovely, worth tracking down
 | Get Low nevermind i was able to find my way to the kingdomleaks discord lol
 | Get Low How do I go about finding and downloading the Novelists album leak? I don't know s*** about leaks.
 | g40st https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPgOctu6qlc
 | Purpl3Spartan Yeah for sure, I definitely didn?t appreciate what they were doing the first time I heard them, but they?ve grown into one of my favorite bands.
 | Purpl3Spartan Oi, you ever checked paledusk? They used to be an average progcore band but since 2019 they found their own style and have been releasing slappers since.
 | Wildcardbitchesss lol I?ve watched it like 7 times man. You?ll pick up a lot more stuff on rewatch, the show is so layered.
 | Wildcardbitchesss Man you?re in for a ride with the leftovers last two seasons.S1 is tame compared to what follows.
 | Groundking Yeh I'm probs not gonna give the og that many spins either tbh
 | Purpl3Spartan I totally agree! It's such a cool concept and such a bummer that it never really caught on but I guess it makes this all the more special. I catch myself hearing things in the songs and I'm like "damn that's low key proggy" lol. Sadly, we prob will never get a 3rd cd. I'd also pay big money if a live set was engineered or something.
 | Purpl3Spartan I think harmonic voltage was my overall favorite growing up because of those silky melodies but I'm now appreciating a lot of the more complex videos like pogo sticks and resonant chamber. The pipe dreams are always a favorite too tho because they're pipe dream
 | Purpl3Spartan Heck yeah man that's the good stuff. Been on a nostlagia binge the last couple days.
 | JayEnder Saved the link and I'm loving the changes you made dude. The quality is way better than Spotify too. I gotta remove your first shout tho cause it totally wacked out my page and the link is outside of the box lmao. Just a heads up so you don't think I'm a douche hah
 | JayEnder Duuude hell yes! You're the man for putting that together. Gonna jam the makeshift album til the full length next year. Glad you bumped your score and you're getting into them.
 | Feather hmmmm... I may have actually seen them live before then. I was at a tour ~2017 with La Dispute and Thrice.
 | Feather I had never heard of gates. They really seem to be flying under the radar.
 | Storm In A Teacup all onions in the united states have been recalled, how do you respond to this controversy?
 | twlight Word, few couple songs are decent but when they get into "Daughter" off of transit blues... Woah that song is heavy!
 | twlight If you get through the first cover song they dive into transit blues stiff...and it slaps
 | twlight https://youtu.be/AAxvsX_wdfoDWP audiotree session. It's pretty cool
 | ArsMoriendi Do you like Of Montreal? I adore their album Satanic Panic in the Attic. I think you'd also like it. It's neo-psych that's sort of Beatley, but also more modern and original in its own right.
 | Feather Good luck ... everything kinda fell off a cliff again after the White album.
 | Feather I was gunna rec you some more modern weezer based on your comment in the news thread but you literally have every one of their albums rated lol
 | Pikazilla song goes v hard, it's on youtube def check it
 | Pikazilla no woz, mateliterally, the only song I'm missing by them is midwestern stylings
 | Pikazilla bitch i saw you download music off me on slsk today
 | Storm In A Teacup check out my new review i think you'll like the band! a lot of great post hardcore elemnts bubsy!
 | SmashIsTheWay94 I see you already bumped it to a 4.5 so that's cool lol. those are all real good picks, apathy has pretty much always been my fav PTW song
 | SmashIsTheWay94 their progression is pretty awesome. it's crazy how just from OOD to YCBY they almost sound like a different band, and their last two albums bring a different vibe as well. what are some of your faves from YCBY so far
 | SmashIsTheWay94 those are some pretty dope poison the well ratings. I'm guessing you haven't gotten to the tropic rot yet but that one kills too
 | DaHound Every time i die the chariot hums ulver
 | SmashIsTheWay94 cool. the heart is a monster is actually my second fav from them, which is probably a weird pick for 2nd best lol. but magnified and in the future are pretty cool too
 | SmashIsTheWay94 yeah awesome stuff. you ever check out anything else from Failure? I mean FP is easily my favorite but their other stuff is worth checking, aside from their debut I guess
 | SmashIsTheWay94 I've gotta spend more time with Downward but it's real good too, as is the new one. but Astronaut is my clear fav at least for now largely cuz of I Hate it Too. god I love that song. but yeah I wasn't far ahead of you, I hadn't heard of them until I got into Failure (specifically Fantastic Planet) a few months back
 | SmashIsTheWay94 Hey man nice Hum rating. I'm guessing the new album hype is what got you to check them out? Weirdly enough I first listened to them like a month ago and then they drop their first album in 22 years lol
 | JohnnyoftheWell oh **** sorry, forgot to clarify the timeframe - any chance you could get that blurb done in the next couple of days?
 | JohnnyoftheWell yes please if you're down!! 950 characters max, and can be whatever style you like!!
 | JohnnyoftheWell o n i o n b u b s hello, are you down to write a few words on Blue Sky Noise for the users AOTD lists?
 | Lucman I totally get that. I love Elsie but it's his more uptempo stuff that I'm more drawn too (Forget Me Not, Wonderful Life, Behold the Hurricane) so this just feels a little dull to me. Def gonna give it another few spins though.
 | Lucman I wish I loved the new Brian Fallon as much as you do. Three listens in and nothing is connecting with me outside of the lead single.
