EDITED

Minor Threat is a hardcore punk band from the Washington DC area. They were one of the pioneers of the straight edge movement.
Minor Threat is:
Ian MacKaye - vocals
Lyle Preslar - guitar<
Brian Baker - bass
Jeff Nelson - drums

Steve Hansesgen played bass when Brian Baker switched to 2nd guitar.

1. Filler - This song is one of my favorites. The greatest way to start the album. "You picked up a bible and now your gone!" I love this song. My brother plays this song when Jeohvah's Witnesses or Mormons come to his house. Very weird solo near end.

2. I Don't Wanna Hear It - I love this song as well, very true lyrics, fast hardcore song.

3. Seeing Red - Ian does a peculiar dance when they play this live. Another song with very true lyrics.

4. Straight Edge - The song that started the movement...opened a whole new "religion" to young people.

5. Small Man, Big Mouth - Another true hardcore song, I think it's pretty weak compared to the others.

6. Screaming at a Wall - Another one of my favorites good song. "I don't wanna have to use my head". Cool drumming in chorus.

7. Bottled Violence - Another one of the fan favorites. "Get your bravery from a six-pack?"

8. Minor Threat - Another fan favorite, "I know we're all heading for that adult crash".

9. Stand Up - This sounds like a song Rollins and the gang would put out on an SOA record.

10. 12XU - A cover by WIRE I believe...."Saw you in a mag, kissin a man, saw you in a mag, smoking a fag".

11. In My Eyes - Another popular song, covered by RATM. "You just think it looks cool!". Very good song in my opinion.

12. Out of Step (With the World) - Another song for the sXe kids. "Can't ceep up, out of step with the world".

13. Guilty of Being White - The boys grew up in DC where the majority of the population was Black, and the Whites were given racism because of what their race has done in the past.

14. Steppin' Stone - Ah I loved this song. Oriiginally by the Monkees, covered by SOA, Govt Issue, and Sex Pistols as well. This is MT's weirdest songs with the drumming over the song.

15. Betray - Good song, I like the guitar intro thing. Passionate lyrics as well.

16. It Follows - This song is about leaving all the preps/socs behind and when he became a punk he thought that everything would be different but it was still there, in a different shape/form.

17. Think Again - Cool guitar riff. I think it's another weak song compared to the others.

18. Look Back and Laugh - Another cool riff, I like this song too. It was featured in SLC Punk.

19. Sob Story - ......"Boo Fucking Hoo"

20. No Reason - This song spoke to me. Just read the lyrics man. "So you hate me, thats the way it goes? What the fuck? I guess I'll never know".

21. Little Friend - I thought this was a pretty weak among the others but its pretty good, general hardcore song.

22. Out of Step - A song for the sXe kids.

23. Cashing In - An anti-major label/anti-money song.

24. Stumped - A weak song compared to the others, again.

25. Good Guys (Don't Wear White) - I like this song, very interesting intro with the acoustic guitar thing. I think it's pretty cool.

26. Salad Days - Good bass intro, a pretty good way to end the album.

Keep It Short and Simple.

With so many songs, any more descriptive would have been tedious and a bore to read. The fact of the matter is, their songs are all very similar, so detailed descriptions of each song would all say basically the same thing.

This is an excellent album, and I would recommend it to anyone into punk, and hardcore especially. 4/5.

not the best review but, its just like the music. fast, short, no preservatives or added chemicals just balls. and just like what makes the music good this gets straight to the point. minor threat wasnt "one of the pioneers" of straight edge, they started it. this is a must have for any fan of hardcore period.

Because they were around for only 3 years and they released two eps in one year.

This is a crappy review.

I don't really like the vocals on Minor Threat songs, I prefer the Circle Jerks.

A couple of comments on Minor Threat and the review...

-Minor Threat wasn't straight-edge, they just wrote a song. They never wanted to start any kind of movement; the song was just an expression of Ian MacKaye's views on letting things like alcohol rule your life.

-Out Of Step (With The World) and Out Of Step are the same basic song, but the latter has a spoken word interlude by MacKaye saying that this isn't a set of rules for people to follow.

-Cashing In is about how a lot of DC punkers felt that Minor Threat had sold out after they reformed. Ian felt betrayed, so he wrote the song as a bit of a sarcastic response (which is why he sings the song in such an aww shucks kind of voice instead of screaming).

I'll agree with most everyone else...this album is REQUIRED for any fan of '80's hardcore.

This album is amazing. The band is amazing. His other band Fugazi led by Ian is okay as long as you keep in mind it isn't hardcore. They should do a reunion tour since all the band members didn't do drugs I bet they would be pretty good still.
