Review Summary: Metal heads rejoice, Your savior has come.
Scar symmetry's name isn't too well known as far as my knowledge goes, but it should be, and this album goes to show it.
The album flows rather nicely with it's song listing and has that amazing mix of Melodic and Death metal vocals that I think of when I think Scar Symmetry, and while they may not be the first band to do it, they certainly do it well.
The song that stands out the most to me on this album is the track the album is titled after, Holographic Universe.
When first diving into this song I wasn't sure what to expect from it, but rest assured it knocked me on my ass with fantastic melodies, beautiful and heavy vocals, and some ball busting guitar playing.
But Holographic universe doesn't ride solely on it's title track, It has other great songs like the masterfully written QuantumLeaper and the track ghost prototype II: deus ex machina Plays ping pong with it's vocals, going from Melodic to A pig growl back to melodic back to a pig growl and keeping smooth flow between the changes all throughout.
Aside from all of these pros though there are some flaws...
A few of the songs seem to be way too repetitive and I found with songs like Prism and Gate, the drumming seemed to rely way to much on the kick drum...
While most of this is just me being nit picky i do think that these things should probably be mentioned.
That aside, Holographic universe is definitely an album you should look into if you like heavy/death metal.
