Expect this review to be much shorter than my previous ones since Weezer songs are pretty basic. This is Weezer's worst album in mine and many fans' opinions. I won't talk about the solo's much since there is one in every song and each resembles the words, so here's the review, track-by-track:
01 - DON'T LET GO
This song is a good starter with a little drum fill and some cool chords. The verses are catchy with little riff fills and the chorus is basic but effective. Catchy song, sounds good, good opener. Gets 4.5/5.
02 - PHOTOGRAPH
Very catchy song, you can hear clapping in the background with little vocal breaks, appropiate power chords, neat sounding guitar in the chorus, short song. Gets 4/5.
03 - HASH PIPE
Based on a neat palm muted chord set that gives the song more of a angrier feel until Rivers comes in with cieling high vocals in the verse every second line and then going to a cool pre-chorus. The chorus sports appropiate backup vocals and great drums. The solo does not resemble the words as much but goes good witht he song. I give it 5/5.
04 - ISLAND IN THE SUN
Really catchy acoustic chord sin the intro and verses. Real fun song, fun to sing along to, just really happy and warming. The chorus has a neat clean background riff with good backup vocals. The bridge jumps into a power chord set that builds the song up twice, once before the end where the acoustic comes back in. It gets 5/5.
05 - CRAB
This is the worst song on the album by far and as well the worst Weezer song. It's catchy but at the same time just annoying, uses wah wah effects on the guitars throughout the song, repetitive and just not a good song. It gets 0/5.
06 - KNOCK-DOWN, DRAG-OUT
This is another catchy number, cool lyrics, goes by quick but has an appropiate chorus, there isn't much to it but you'll probably find that you really liek this song. it gets 4.5/5.
07 - SMILE
Here's a slower song on the album. It starts with wah-wah effects and slow power chords. Good vocals and lyrics, nice chorus, wah-wah solo as well. Great bridge. Nice song, good lyrics, gets 4/5.
08 - SIMPLE PAGES
Here's one of the best songs on the album. Starts right away with a quick build-up (much liek that of Perfect Situation) but jumps right into a catchy and speedy verse. The chorus is good, not as well sung, some background fills. Bridge resembles intro, cool solo, ends well. It gets 5/5.
09 - GLOURIOUS DAY
Starts off with both guitars playing a riff, one clean, one distorted, which then builds up to a verse with catchy drums, guitar and vocals. The chorus brings the song down, not as catchy as the rest of the song. The song gets 4/5.
10 - O GIRLFRIEND
This is the longest song on the album, starts off with some opening riffs. A bit of a slower and sadder song, the verse especially. The chorus is a build up from the verse but not much different, just heightened vocals. Longer solo than others on the album, proceeded by a quick bridge sounds good. The song is an alright ender, but ends it off on a slower note and doesn't make the album memorable enough by the end, gets 3.5/5.
So there you have it, Weezer's Green Album, chord styles are a bit repetitive, songs and album are extremely short, a couple not so good songs, some pretty good songs, most are catchy, so the album gets 3.5/5.
