Release Date: 2006 | Tracklist

Red, the 5-piece Alternative Metal/Nu Metal/Hard Rock/Post-Grunge group out of Nashville broke onto the scene in 2006 with their release of 'End of Silence' with an already polished mainstream rock sound ready for the radio waves found in the major singles "Breathe Into Me," "Let Go," and "Already Over." These songs reminded many of Linkin Park's fleeting Nu Metal sound as other popular bands such as Breaking Benjamin and Three Days Grace.

Yet, their brilliance was seemingly lost in this inevitable comparison many find to link them to other groups, and sounds. Few took the time to scrutinize the mastery that Red accomplished with their accumulation of a variety of instrumentals (rich orchestration, piano, etc.) and passionate vocals. In this sound, Red truly found a sound that captured the great contrast that the genre of Rock has the capacity of manifesting. Unlike other groups who throw in a ballad to portray a softer side, Red's contrast in this album was not found in a so-called "throw in" track, but in a concept, re-occuring theme's (such as the "Intro (End of Silence)" and "Hide (Beginning of Silence)" where the piano-based theme reminds the listener of life's plights and man's on-going search for the meaning of life.

Red is, in my opinion, one of the most emotionally driven groups we see in mainstream music today. Their artistry often overlooked, and their sound often labeled amongst the need to define them within the more major popular rock groups of today. My advice for those who are receptive to Alt. Metal/Hard Rock/Nu Metal/Post-Grunge: Give this album an objective listen, to many, this album is a true EXPERIENCE, allow yourself the opportunity to make it an experience of your own.

Solid, but unoriginal debut that barely escapes being borderline cheesy at times....

RED releases a great debut. But they really do need to cut Rob Graves out of the picture...

Quite possibly the next big thing in the Christian rock scene. Highly recommended if you'r...

Why reinvent the wheel when you can either add to it or improve upon it?...

An 'ok' hard rock/nu metal band trying to sound bigger and better than they really are....

good first review man. Next time, maybe just make it a bit longer, but this is good stuff.

Haven't really given this band a go yet, but I'm planning to. They seem right up my alley. Which is a better starting place, this or their new one?

I have both their albums. They just hit a wall with me, as in the wall is where I just don't listen to them ever again nor do I feel the need to. It just seems to happen to me these days when I listen to any current nu-metal release. Oh, and just so I don't get someone saying "THIS ISN'T NU-METAL THIS IS ALT-ROCK BRO GTFO" I wasn't implying this is nu-metal (pretty close though) but it results in the same outcome as the nu-metal "wall" effect I seem to have these days.

This one has more "nu" influence and more aggressive sections, but the new one has better song writing (but is also more restrained).

I agree with what you've said, but there are a few run on sentence you might want to fix.

"Red, the 5-piece Alternative Metal/Nu Metal/Hard Rock/Post-Grunge group out of Nashville broke onto the scene in 2006 with their release of 'End of Silence' with an already polished mainstream rock sound ready for the radio waves found in the major singles "Breathe Into Me," "Let Go," and "Already Over."

Sounds a little awkward after radio waves.

"Yet, their brilliance was seemingly lost in this inevitable comparison many find to link them to other groups, and sounds."

Put "in which" after comparison and you don't need a comma after sounds.

On another note, this band is underrated.

Nice dig there payne. I just don't like the end of that album. Warflower brings the sex though.

Not nearly a 4.5 when all things are considered, but nice review in any case. This album and Disciple's "Scars Remain" was my first "heavy" music (as The Red Chord comes up on shuffle, ha ha). As such, it shall have a place in my rotation always.

@Styles:

Yeah, definitely start with this one, much less radio rock but less mature sounding vox. Oh, and the drummer is so much better in this one, they had a studio drummer for the second album.

Good review albeit a little on the short side.

The band is good, and their newest release is one of my favorites for 2009.

@ Powerban

Yeah I was a little skeptical about the rapping portions of that album, but now it doesn't bother me that much. Warflower is indeed a sexy song.

Lost is probably my favorite track from this album. It just seems so emotional and the orchestrated aspect makes it so much better.

Yeah, the last orchestrated parts of Let Go and Lost are probably the best moments of the album.

I have to join the agreement train... Lost is the best track on here.
