This album known as "Waking the Fallen", was Avenged Sevenfold's second album of the three created. WTF, shortened (haha), is a favorite of most Avenged Sevenfold's fans for a simple reason: schizophrenia. Schizophrenia would be the only way to describe the album, due to the insane screaming and heavy, heavy riffs. Most songs on Waking the Fallen were filled with rhythmic chords combine with fast, high pitched vocalized screams performed by M. Shadows before his terrible accident, where he burst a blood vessel in his neck. In this album, the vocals of M. Shadows have matured since the debut album, creating the perfect insane atmosphere wanted by a good metal CD. It isn't metalcore, it's more of an odd metal mix with a tiny bit of punk in it.

M. Shadows - Lead Vox
Synyster Gates - Lead Guitar
Vengeance - Rhythem Guitar
Johnny Christ - Bass
The Reverand - Drums

TRACK BY TRACK - I rate low.

Waking the Fallen - You can tell this song was meant as a filler, showing you what the album will sound like. It gives an example of heavy riffs and screaming, displaying the matured M. Shadows. At least, that's what I noticed. --/10

Unholy Confessions - This was chosen to be the first single released from the album, which I really didn't like. Although it had a good heavy riff and a catchy chorus, it wasn't anything special. 6.5/10

Chapter Four - The premise of the song is very cool. It is based off the fourth chapter of genesis in the Bible. The song has a nice mix of chords, and a sweet solo at the end. It's not amazing, but it's a step up from Unholy Confessions. 7.5/10

Remensissions - This song was meant to have a different style from the other ones, and accomplishes this quite well. Like most songs on the album, has a beautiful intro. It is actually very heavy, despite the odd style. 8/10

Desecrate Through Reverance - A tremendously heavy mix of screaming and rhythemic chords playing with him. There is also some decent lyrics, if you can understand them. It's one of my favorite songs on the album, because it's one of the heaviest. 9/10

Eternal Rest - Has an incredible intro. The intro is a powerful solo, less of an intro, and brings an intensity to the fast paced screaming that comes after. There is also a sweet part about 1:15 in, where he does this cool rhythemic screaming, with some pretty crazy lyrics. It is definitley the best song on the album, especially with a chorus that awesome. 10/10

Second Heartbeat - This song has a lot of instrumental talent moreso than vocally. It has an utterly insane solo at the end, which isn't a regular a7x solo as you would expect. It makes up for the messy vocals in my opinion. 8/10

Radiant Eclipse - IMO, this was the worst song on the album. The intro is something very boring and easy, and it goes on way too long. It is decent screamwise, however. 6/10

I Won't See You Tonight (Part I) - This song is very different from the rest of the album. It is filled with classical instruments, and has a nice tone without screaming. It stopped me from getting bored of the screaming right away. 8.5/10

I Won't See You Tonight (Part II) - It's odd that the second part of the song would be so insanely heavy compared with the rest. The screaming is back, pleasantly throwing you off-course as with what you were expecting, and the symbol is abused like a soccer mom on The Man Show. 9/10

Clairvoyant Disease - This song is a lot less heavy than you'd expect. Less screaming, more soft singing. It is pretty cool, and gets heavier at parts to create a decent mix. 8/10

And All Things Must End - The cleanup song with a loveable solo. There wasn't much to this song, besides the insane solo. 7.5/10

I wrote this review because the other one had terrible trackbytrack. Hope this helped.

I enjoyed Radiant Eclipse quite a bit.

and I thought Chapter 4 was one of, if not the best metal song I've ever heard. (I mostly just LOVE the little guitar riff going on in the breakdown.)

edit: Nice little review though. I'm gonna download so I can sample the rest of the album. Might buy this one if I really get into it.This Message Edited On 07.10.05

everyone has their opinions but frankly i hate this one, not to be rude or anything, but quite frankly this being my fave A7X album i have to say something, eternal rest had the crappiest intro in existence...it annoys me and all of my friends so much it's just a bunch of random sliding and high pitched crap, if you're going for a good solo go for the one in Reminissions, it is wonderful, if not flawless.... fit the song perfect, as for the review on Unholy Confessions, this was one of their best songs, they clearly put the most energy into it otherwise they wouldn't have released it first, and i think it turned out nothing short of incredible, overall i agree with this being a great album though, i just believe you under-rated some songs

aaaaaaaaahahaha, WHAT? Do you know ANYTHING about guitar-playing? I agree that the album was better than he gave credit for, but your comment about Eternal Rest's intro is just ridiculous. Random sliding? That's a guitar solo there that could rival some of Kirk Hammet's boring-but-amazing Metallica solos.

Haha I believe A7X was at their best in this album compared to City Of Evil. I still listen to this every now and then, never really gets old. I especially love The Leaving Song Part 1, great piano part and great transitions gotta love it. And the solos are nothing to laugh about, incredible solos, simply incredible.

the solos are more scaled and planned, which I don't like, except for the amazing one in the last song on the album. Also, as I said, I rate LOWW. A lot of people find me to be too much of a critic. This was an amazing album.
