| Coldplay's Albums Ranked
This band was my first music love. Here's my rankings of their albums. | 6 | | Coldplay X & Y
Meh. I don't hate this album, but I don't really like it either. I'm indifferent to it. The
songwriting, lyrics and production on this album are as bland as Coldplay have ever been. You
can still hear some of that Coldplay charm there (Fix You, Speed of Sound), but unfortunately,
the filler tracks outnumber the gems here. 2.5/5 | 5 | | Coldplay Mylo Xyloto
Fairy floss, energy drinks and colourful graffiti. That sums up this album. It's fun, don't get me
wrong, but it's all a bit shallow and plasticky isn't it? Too much of it, and you'll end up with a
headache and a sore stomach. There's some decent individual songs in there, but overall I
found it a bit lacking. 3.5/5 | 4 | | Coldplay Parachutes
A strong, chilled out debut album. Not quite as engaging as some of their later stuff, but has a
really nice, comforting vibe to it (actually, that word describes Coldplay perfectly for some
reason - 'comforting'. In a good way). Suffers from a bit of filler, but there's some great tracks
in there too (Don't Panic, Shiver, Yellow, Everything's Not Lost). 4/5 | 3 | | Coldplay A Rush of Blood to the Head
The classic, quintessential Coldplay album. When someone says "Sounds like Coldplay", they
mean it sounds like this album. More confident, and with stronger songwriting than their first
album, it has some all-time Coldplay classics, like The Scientist, Clocks and Amsterdam. Politik
is a great album opener, too. 4.3/5 | 2 | | Coldplay Ghost Stories
Quite a polarising album, but I love Ghost Stories. Without one bad song on it, it works well as
a whole, while still having some great singles. The mellow, melancholy tone of the album is
nice and fits the band well I feel. True Love is the highlight of the album for me, but I enjoy
every song really (yes, including A Sky Full of Stars. Great song). 4.5/5 | 1 | | Coldplay Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends
This was a varied, confident breath of fresh air. Coldplay striking out with something a bit
different, after the bland, safe X&Y. Containing one of their catchiest ever pop songs (Viva la
Vida), an asian-sounding instrumental opener (Life in Technicolor) and a terrific finisher, one
of their best songs (Death and All His Friends), it's their most complete and interesting album.
