180 Degree Opinons

A couple of albums I hated, then gave another chance later down the line rand wondered how I rcould have ever hated them. It doesn't happen very often, but it doesn't get much better than rfinally 'getting' something.
1Killer Mike
R.A.P. Music

Boy did I hate this when I first heard it. I didn't like the rapping, I didn't care for
the beats and I didn't like the police hate Mike seemed pretty intent on getting
across. I tried it again recently after enjoying Run The Jewels and it made so much
more sense. I still don't see it as a classic but it's a damn good album.
2Alcest
Ecailles De Lune

So, black metal vocals took me a lot of listening time not to hate so much. I like
them more now, but they'll never be my favourite. This album just washed straight
over me when I first heard it, but it's one of my favourites now. I can't pinpoint
exactly when that happened because I can't remember, but I'm glad it did.
3The Tallest Man on Earth
The Wild Hunt

First listen: just a guy with a guitar. Second listen: just a guy with a guitar. Third
listen: ohmygod this is the best thing since Christmas was invented.
4Ulver
Blood Inside

Went from a bunch of random noises and weird chord shifts to an album which I
can see the meticulous decision behind every single musical choice and effect. It's
grown off me a bit now, probably due to so many listens, but I can see why this
took a while to make.
5Hammock
Kenotic

I see this album before I loved it and after I loved it as two completely different
genres, let alone two different albums. I remember thinking it was pretty cool, kinda
chill and laid back, but it was a bit slow. But now... You know when you first move
to a new area how it looks in your brain, and then after you've lived there for 10
years. How it doesn't even seem like the same place, how you can't even imagine
how you saw it like you did when you first moved in? Yeah that's this album for me.
6dredg
Catch Without Arms

Decent enough album. Catchy, fun .... oh wow this is now defining my life at 16
years old
7Lights Out Asia
Eyes Like Brontide

I used to hate electronic music. I'm sorry. I had to keep reading good reviews to
force myself to hear this just one more time. I'm so glad I did. Six Points Of Fire is
one of the best 10min + songs ever and I had no idea.
8Isis
Oceanic

This one's pretty funny actually. I never hated it, just didn't see what all the fuss
was about. Then I listened to it at ear-splitting volume one day. Yup... I see it
now. Feels like I just got dragged to hell and back in an hour.
9Opeth
Blackwater Park

I know this is a boring choice, but I really had to force myself to enjoy Death metal
vocals. They made me feel a bit sick when I first heard them. But I understood
music and I knew they weren't bad, I just didn't quite get why they were good yet.
So I listened to this maybe 10 times one week and slowly understood why people
liked harsh vocals. Was probably a bit much for an 11 year old who had only
listened to 'nice' music most of his life, but I'm happy I did this. It started the ball
rolling for my philosophy of 'if people like this music, there must be something I
don't understand about it' and then trying to understand the merit behind the
music. Even if I don't see it at first.
10Eluvium
Nightmare Ending

I never liked Copia very much (future project), and I wondered why everyone raved
so much about something so dull. Thought the same of this one until I sat and had
a real listen one day. Wow. It really connected with me. I used to think this was
just watered down ambient for people who didn't like ambient. I was wrong.
