porcupinetheater 05.29.15	I think what I really loved about Mad Max was the really subtle world building that was going on beneath the action, that never really called itself but fleshed out the world to a ridiculously extent. Nux's name engraved on the gas pedal of his car. The skeleton engraved on the door of Furiosa's truck (where her severed left arm would normally rest, never calling attention to itself but implying so much history); Mad Max just had amazing set pieces, better than any fucking Marvel "Oh just cut it together from coverage" action fucking bullshit, but with so much underlying it that could fly under the radar. But I also fucking love Raven That Refused to Sing. What does that say about my relation to action cinema?

Rice303 05.29.15	@Porcupinetheater, I agree, that's what I kinda meant by subtle sub-plots, there's a lot of imagery that's used to explain things without dialog, which also causes the action to continue without there having to be lengthy conversations between characters Max's and Furyosa's relationship in this movie reminds me of Drive (The relationship between Gosling and Carey) without the romantic attachment. They hardly talk and it's subtle, but it strengthens heaps as the movie progresses

zaruyache 06.04.15	It didn't really get the film when I saw it in theaters as much as I'd hoped, but I'll probably watch it online next year and totally love it. Might go see it at the local drive-in this weekend, if I can force myself to sit through the first showing of Poltergeist.
zaruyache 06.04.15	I mean like the frame rate felt weird to me, I'm really particular about how/where I sit, idk. It has to be totally comfortable for me to really get into a film properly. :/

Froot 06.05.15	it was alright. the pacing gets kind of ropey towards the third act, the final action scene feels like a bit of a retread in terms of setpieces, and that title can fuck right off, but the movie was fun all things considered.

Also that whole hubbub was started by some douche blogger who based his entire opinion on not the film itself, but one trailer he'd seen where Furiosa had more speaking parts than Max--when the other trailer was mostly Max-centered anyway. Manbabies with paper-thin skin are so adorably funny.

"like max has less than ten lines in the entire movie i swear" Max only has 16 in Road Warrior and that's one of the best movies ever.
DrGonzo1937 06.09.15	I think the point is, the viewer is watching events through Max's eyes. So technically he is the main man, but the films aren't actually about him. Apart from the first film, of course.
