shitty myspace deathcore redemption arc

remember when deathcore bad? well what if i told you deathcore good now? then what?
1Job for a Cowboy
Moon Healer

the buzz around this album got me thinkin bout the evolution of some of these myspace era deathcore bands into respectable* death/deathcore bands. while never fully versed in myspace deathcore, I always hated it. I heard what I heard and I didnt feel like delvin deeper (Entombment of a Machine goes hard though in a meme-y kinda way). anyways between this album and Sun Eater, JFAC def has come a long way from their core days.

*your definition may vary
2The Acacia Strain
Failure Will Follow

looking at Sput averages, Vince and Co. have been on the redemption arc for a few albums now, but I felt like their most recent offering was their most interesting. moving from deathcore to like better deathcore to straight up sludge is quite the trajectory (is it though?), but I'm here for it cuz its getting me to listen.
3Chelsea Grin
Suffer In Heaven

my exposure to this band was Sputbro suppatime's 1.5 star review of ironically named EP "Evolve." with album art as horrid (and as AI-looking before AI album art was a thing) as that, its no shocker that the music sucked too. I remember searching em on a whim recently and seeing they had two new albums with higher than usual averages and cooler than usual album art so I figured I'd give em a peep. surprise surprise, its actually pretty forkin swag.
4Chelsea Grin
Suffer In Hell

the older and weaker of the two new albums, but still slaps. even features Trevor Strnad on a song.
5Dr. Acula
Dr. Acula

was perusing shows at a local venue last year and noticed Dr. Acula opening for HIRS Collective. I was like, oh shit, HIRS Collective, I should go. then I was like, wait, Dr. Acula? surely thats not the same one? it was, and dont call me shirley!! hahahahahaha holy fuck anyways I went to look em up and they had a new album with another higher than average average so I checked it and was like DAMN. they done did it. anyways, I ended up missing the show cuz my friend bailed and I didnt feel like solo doloing it.
6Fit for an Autopsy
The Great Collapse

was drivin around the mean streets of the DC burbs one fine afternoon with sputbro suppatime when he queued up this album. I was like yoo this is sick, who is this? and hes like Fit For an Autopsy bro!!! and I'm just like what!!!!!!!!!! anyways I've heard their shit pre-Joe is actually pretty good but I never listened and all I can think of is that debut EP's album art which was enough to put me off about em I guess. one of my favorite heavy bands in general these days tbh.
7Whitechapel
The Valley

back in like 2008 I was playing WoW and got invited to a guild called WHITECHAPEL and when I joined I was like yo are you named after the band? and they were like fuck yea dude!! and I was like lmao they fucking blow and was immediately kicked. I sure showed them. or did they show me? cuz now The Valley (and Kin) exist and theyre dope lol
8Carnifex
Slow Death

idk if this counts as redemption arc since this was a few albums ago and averages have gone down again but I have admittedly not listened to any of them so maybe I should do that but wanted to include them here anyways cuz when I think shitty myspace deathcore I think of Carnifex. album art goes in tho
9Gravemind
Conduit

twlight

gave this a peep and it sounds like ERRA with some heavier than normal breakdowns here and there. I mean with album art like that its gotta sound like ERRA or northlane or somethin. feels a bit more on the metalcore side but gets heavy enough
10Brand of Sacrifice
Lifeblood

11Signs Of The Swarm
Amongst The Low And Empty
