i saw The Halo Effect last nite

it was epic u guys!! except actually the show started an hour and a half later than it was supposed to. doors were at 6:30 but people werent let in until 8 due to the swedes' audio interfaces not working? or somethin? idk it was wack
1Winter Nights
Winter Nights

the brooklyn melodeath mainstays found their way onto this show. they open for just about every melodeath show that comes thru here so this wasnt the first time i'd seen em. they're alright. nothin too crazy to write home about (maybe the show starting late was a pysop to get more ppl to watch their set)
2High Command
Eclipse of the Dual Moons

interesting choice throwin these dudes on a melodeath/metalcore bill but in retrospect it kinda works, its kinda like an evolution of the bands genres or some shit in regards to melodic riffing. like, thrashcore -> metalcore -> melodeath just kinda makes sense i think.

High Command was dope, they brought the riffz and the headbangz hard. and they remembered me from one of their first shows in DC 4 years ago. that was nice.
3Unearth
The Wretched; The Ruinous

seeing Unearth is cathartic in a way bc they were one of the first heavy bands i ever got into which paved the way for my shitty taste in music to evolve. i will forever be grateful to them for that. or ungrateful idc. theyre gettin old but they can still perform like its 2005 and metalcore is relevant.

bonus story: i asked Buzz if he remembers 12 years ago when 2 high schoolers picked him up from the airport and drove him to his gig that he guestlisted us for. he did! i was like yo that was me haha! it was so special. such a fun little story!
4The Halo Effect
Days of the Lost

tbh, i was really excited for this project but the music they made is like, not that exciting really. i mean its not bad by any means, its fairly decent melodeath, but its just missing something. anyways, seein the old In Flames boys + Mikael perform together was neat (well, save for Jesper, dudes not on tour surprise surprise). they had the dude from the Haunted fill in and hes p good at least.

anyways they played some new songs that sounded decent if i do say so myself. i wanted to buy a tshirt but they was chargin $40 wtf! I left with a few songs left in the set cuz it was almost 1am and I was tired lol
