i saw Eluveitie the other night

having forgotten about the band for over a decade, I made the long trek across the east coast to the capital of the confederacy to see Eluveitie. Omnium Gatherum (my loves) were opening, so that was the main draw. and the fact that it was a Saturday and 7 close friends of mine were going.
1Seven Spires
Gods Of Debauchery

I think I remember skipping this band a few years back when they were opening for someone else after listening to whatever they had out at the time and being thoroughly unimpressed, but this time around I decided to give em another chance after listening to their most recent offering, Gods of Debauchery. the album is WAY too long, but there are plenty of songs in there that stand out and are at the least bit catchy af. their set was super short which sucked but they kicked ass for sure. excited to see what's in store for em
2Omnium Gatherum
The Redshift

this was my 4th or 5th time seein the boys, been able to catch em every time they've toured the states. saw them on their first headlining tour last year so it was a bit of a step-down this time around in terms of set length, basically half of what it was last year. but thats to be expected I guess. they played a lot of newer stuff, I think the only change they made since last year (besides cutting most of the songs) was adding the new single Slasher. pit went hard, got a full cardio workout in. spoke with Jukka afterwards and told him they really ought to consider adding The Return to their setlist and he said "The Return? yea i like that song! thats a good idea." told him that that song got me into the band 15+ years ago and that OG was my...OG metal band....and he was like, "damn..." emotional!! I love him sm
3Eluveitie
Slania

was really only ever a fan of Thousandfold and Inis Mona back in high school. every time I tried to listen to them beyond that I'd get bored cuz of how same-y it is which is weird cuz I like the most same-y metal subgenre (melodeath) but yea idk, it all translates into a live setting much better anyways. very bouncy and energetic. they have like a million people on stage playing all sorts of instruments and I lowkey might've fallen in love with their new hurdy gurdy player. I digress.

the major highlight here was that Chigrel, the harsh vocalist of Eluveitie, couldnt make the tour due to a family emergency. to fill in his place, Adrienne from Seven Spires and Jukka from OG filled it so I got to see Jukka do guest vox on some Eluveitie songs which I thought was cool as hell (sorry Chigrel). they took turns doing different songs then both appeared when they closed with Inis Mona. neat!
