Punk Albums Of My Childhood (and Now)
In chronological order (kinda), these are the punk albums that have influenced me personally rand musically. Felt it was time for reflection. Some are more punk than others, some are more rinfluential. Regardless, they all have a certain prominence |

Dookie
Will probably be in everyone's punk album list, but it's pretty much the first
one I ever heard. It has to be there. |

Goddamnit
Alkaline Trio quickly became my favourite band and this album just shows why. |

So Long, Astoria
Reminds me of when I was 14. My sister used to love this album and I
heard my fair share of it as well. |

Conspiracy of One
The first Offspring album I ever heard, and tracks like 'I Want You Bad' are
obvious and teenage favourites. |

Sticks and Stones
Another teen year winner, literally love this album, still now. |

Maybe I'll Catch Fire
It was hard to decide on only two alk3 albums for this, but this one is a
favourite along with 'Goddamnit' and actually reminds me of a family holiday
where I first started texting my first crush. One of those memorable ones,
y'know. |

Good Charlotte
Oh pop-punk, how I love you. This reminds me of our annual holiday to
Wales where it firmly remained in the car cd player for the duration of the
week, every year for at least 2 years. |

Sex, Love and Rock'n'Roll
I remember the moment my dad got home from work with this cd for me, I
hadn't heard Social Distortion, but he had got me this, and it was love at

This is the soundtrack to my love of THPS2 and Matt Hoffman BMX games,
the latter of which I first heard Face to Face, now a firm favourite. |

Sing The Sorrow
Another album by a band my sister loved. Learnt some of the tracks on
drums, played them all the time. Loved listening to this. Met who is now
one of my best friends, but who was then a obsession, at a show, the
usual. |

Revolutions Per Minute
Probably the first time I ever heard double time and recognised what it
was. A fundamental moment one could say. |

Your Favorite Weapon
One of the albums that got me through some teenage love moments, Jesse
Lacey singing about his own twisted relationships gave me solace I
suppose... :-/ 'Seventy Times Seven' |

Civil Disobedients
I wouldn't have ever been in a band if it wasn't for Capdown, and this
album is one from the plethora I listened to in my final years at school. |

Take Off Your Pants and Jacket
I was one of those kids who preferred Green Day to blink-182 in my early
teens, but eventually I was taken over by them. This was in the first year of
university, what a good year... |

Forget and Not Slow Down
My favourite album ever. This. I would never have thought that a break up
album from a Christian band would take that spot at any point in my life,
but this is something else. So many good messages, and it's beautiful to
boot. Discovered in my first year of university properly. A year to learn I

Fast Times at Barrington High
This is when I started listening to 'rubbish' pop punk that I pride myself on
now. Such a good poppy album. |

Nothing Personal
This, on top of being another example of the pop punk that rocks my world,
was the soundtrack to the worst thing I have ever done to a friend, and
despite being amazing, I regularly listened to it as I drowned my sorrows.
We eventually settled everything and are still best friends. This reminds me
of how you can get through a situation, no matter how bad. |

Great Danger
This is mine and said friend's favourite album. She showed me 'Ms Crumby'
and it still is OUR SONG. Except now perhaps Forever The Sickest Kids - 'My
Worst Nightmare' (no reference to the name :p) |

First taste of pop punk mixed with hardcore, a slightly more poppy variant.
Makes me jump around every time. |

Love, Ire & Song
This man is sensational. This album reminds me of driving to Weymouth to
see my friends in the holidays. Incredible. |

Drunken Lullabies
Oh, Dave King, you are the man. Bridget, you are the woman. So happy you
got together. I have never danced so much at a show. This album really
brought it together for me at uni, and I have had some of my best times
ever watching them play live. |

The Greatest Story Ever Told
The song 'Ghost Stories' by The Lawrence Arms actually reminds me of
when I was 13 and posted on mx and this place called punkcentre. This
album however reminds me of my second year of uni when I lived with my
friend Perity. Some of my happier days. 2010 is my favourite year so far,
despite the bad times, the good times were something else. |

Four One Five Two
Chris McCaughan, I love you, marry me. This album is just in my soul, there
are so many times that this has accompanied me in, there isn't a time, more
like an era to dedicate this album to. |

The 59 Sound
I remember the exact moment when I first heard 'Old White Lincoln', only
about a year ago, and since then, my music library has been a different
story. Absolutely love this band. |

Not Like This
These last five albums are ones that I have heard this year and are a
reflection of how punk and pop punk is still alive, thriving and using youth
and growing up, to come up with a more mature style of a genre that
reminds everyone of their teens. Or at least those are the ones I have
related to. This is a cracker. |

Idle Ages
This was reviewed on here about a week ago, and it's amazing, so glad I
have had sputnik/mx all these years, I would never have heard the stuff I
have without it. I wouldn't be who I am now, it's crazy to think. "We'll still
have ourselves when we don't own anything else." |

Neighborhoods
A nice way to round off, you might think. An album from an old school band
that threw away the light hearted banter of pop punk and replaced it with
a mature reminiscent attitude which, contrary to some people opinions on
their direction, makes parallels with my own life, that really makes me love
the genre evermore. Thank you Mark, Tom and Travis. |
