06.13.26 | the tech keeps it fresh. blasted that Nuclear Tomb a couple times already, super fun
dang this Heavenwood record is surprising me. Hadn't heard of them before but solid track record looks like and the founder just hit the reset button.
really digging the genre blend and strong songwriting. like some parts are gothic/dark tinged 90s doomy death, others like less proggy midtempo Opeth with Mikaelesque growls, carving out proper songs moreso than riffs, prominent drum mix.

06.14.26 | Whoa new Heavenwood! I prefer the diversity and melodics of Part I but this is very solid heavy stuff. Azazzel check out Tarot Part I and debut Diva.
Vehemence, Fires In The Distance and Stormkeep do not impress much so far, alas. | Azazzel
06.18.26 | Vehemence was a reconstruction of their debut. Sure it's not as forcefully impressive with the melodic leads of their breakout album on passing listen but I've spun it a few times and find much to enjoy in the distinct songs and folkened flavors. Still better than much melodic black these days.
World cup has made it hard to squeeze in more fair chances for Fires in the Distance, more of their formula isn't bad but easy for that style to fall bland.
shoutout Goetia for some a real solid death debut LP. I remember Nex featured their EPs on his short lived roundtable column a while back. | Azazzel
06.20.26 | new week, new list of releases. what's good? Vafurlogi is a standout for me - strong follow up to a great debut in that Icelandic style
I got around to that Soulburn blackened doom last week - had no idea they started out as a reincarnation of Asphyx. |
