So I met CalculatingInfinity, and he met me

So, after a solid year-and-a-bit of trying to arrange a meet-up around studies and being at the opposite ends of England, Sputnik user CalculatingInfinity came down to Portsmouth to visit for a couple of days. It was magnificent. List is, with a couple of exceptions, stuff that's in my tabs atm. Callum almost had an aneurysm when he saw the number open.

Return to the Void

After being nice and productive at a mathematics conference in Reading, Calc got down here at around 7 o'clock. I went to pick him up from the station, for our first ever actual meeting; I was definitely a little bit nervous, mainly because I was worried about that 1 in 400 chance that he'd stab me as I slept. He got his first sight of Portsmouth - it was grey, raining and windy, so pretty par for the course.

After our wander back, we realised we should probably get food. Turns out, you can't get as much in two shopping bags as one might think. We spent the evening watching a Rageaholic doc/discog review on Darkthrone, which was pretty splendid. Also we shared a communal tea, which was lovely considering Callum doesn't really drink it. See pics.

3Coheed and Cambria
Neverender

Saturday came! Our plan for the day went ahead, which was to watch 'Neverender' in its entirety, as Callum's got a pretty bitching box set and I'd never seen it (only heard it). It was pretty exceptional - turns out I know more words to Coheed than I thought, which was a problem for Callum as I insisted on singing along.

Also on the Saturday, we decided we should probably go for a walk, especially given that in Portsmouth sunlight is a limited commodity. It was windy, but you can't have everything. We ended up taking an excursion to HMV, where I acquired a couple of Dillinger albums and David Sylvian's 'Secrets of the Beehive.' Calc reigned himself in, citing a want for a Dir en Grey live come November.
5Ofermod
Sol Nox

Callum decided that, upon seeing my tea collection, I have a problem. He took a picture to be posted here, but it's totally vanished.
6Possession (BE)
Exorkizein

Sunday came! The day started a little slowly, but was actually quite nice - after having woken up just sitting in the lounge and chatting was particularly pleasant. By this time, Callum started to get an idea of how clumsy I am - he'd already born witness to several burns, a stubbed toe and countless fumbles.

"After spending two days with you I feel better about myself" - CalculatingInfinity, 2017.
7Der Weg Einer Freiheit
Finisterre

Another walk. The wind still refusing to go away, Callum wound up with a painful jaw and I ended up with sore lips. Nothing happened, I swear.

Portsmouth may not be flooded with tourist opportunities, but we do have guinea pigs in the park and that's basically as good as it gets.

8The Mortal
Immortal

Figured we'd watch another sweet live afterwards, this time in the shape of Immortal. After making ourselves giddy on sweet production and particularly gorgeous lighting, we settled down for the evening watching another Rageaholic doc thing on Yngwie Malmsteen, during which I realised I might like his stuff more than I first thought.

Callum claps a lot when he laughs. It's loud.
9Fin
Arrows of a Dying Age

Monday morning came a bit too quickly ;-; We decided to round things off with an episode of Kobayashi's Dragon Maid, which if you haven't seen is some filthy weeb shit that's totally not cool. However, we both found it a particularly comfy ending, upon which we took our final stroll to the train station (it was still fucking windy). A small crisis concerning trains later, Callum was gone, back to the north where they have REAL weather, not this soft southern shit.

It was truly a pleasure meeting you pal. Looking forward to the next time!
