What I'm Diggin - Oct 2012
Ten albums that i'm loving in the lovely month of october 2012. Take a
gander, find some new music. |
1 | | Yeasayer Fragrant World
This album is amazing and definitely flew up many's radars. Take a listen and you
won't be disapppointed. Best song: Reagan's Skeleton |
2 | | Feist Metals
Just picked this up after hearing her performance (and accompanying win) at the Polaris
Prize. Stunner of an album, definitely an awesome atmospheric masterpiece. Best song:
Caught a Long Wind |
3 | | Interpol Turn on the Bright Lights
Had heard of Interpol but never really gave a listen. After urging from my friend,
picked this one up. Amazing album, definitely a kind of grunge-y Strokes. Best
song: Obstacle 1 |
4 | | Elzhi Elmatic
A remake of the classic Nas album Illmatic, to fit with Elzhi's own lyrics and
upbringing. Definitely went about this the correct way with live instrumentation and
original lyrics. Best song: It Ain't Hard to Tell |
5 | | Animal Collective Centipede Hz
When I first listened to the stream of this album, I found nothing to be desired
beyond awesome single Today's Supernatural. When I returned to it, I immediately
realized that AnCo had another great album on their hands, maybe not on par with
their last, but still great nonetheless. Best song: Father Time |
6 | | Zeus Busting Visions
Similar to the previous album, I originally listened through this and found it to be a
decent successor, but after spending more time with it, I realized Zeus had a
seriously awesome sophomore album on their hands. So vintage while staying true
to their indie-rock style. Best song: Strong Mind |
7 | | Japandroids Celebration Rock
An amazing pump up record with tons of energy. Sounds like the live experience
captured perfectly. Best song: House that Heaven Built |
8 | | GRiZ Mad Liberation
You may not of heard of GRiZ, but he is an emerging dubstep/electro producer who
just put out a free album. I was surprised at the originality of this album while
staying within the framework of the dubstep genre. Definitely someone to check
out. Best song: Too Young for Tragedy |
9 | | Frank Ocean channel ORANGE
Wow. Did not expect much of this debut, but boy did it surprise. Instantly catchy
and kept fresh with interesting production and Mr. Ocean's awesome voice. Definite
buy for any fan of the R&B genre. Best song: Pyramids |
10 | | Beastie Boys Ill Communication
A gold classic by the Beasties. To me, their best album, with the best lyrics and
most intriguing production. The Beasties in their prime. RIP MCA. Best song: Sure
Shot |
