Kingdok's 2023

Gave it a coupla weeks to let a few albums settle.
1Polkadot Cadaver
Echoes Across The Hellscape

Unusually for PC, initially felt solid but a little unspectacular. The rate of growth for some of these tracks was incredible tho, became an absolute belter.

A Dog Without Water
2Therapy?
Hard Cold Fire

Feels like T? Have settled into a groove over their last few albums, for the first time really in their career. Wonderful flow and some real nasty hooks keep it punching after uncountable plays.

TwovWounded Animals
3Hellripper
Warlocks Grim and Withered Hags

First time I've really delved into blackened thrash, after a year of rediscovering the thrash records that shaped my tastes. How can anyone resist a song called Goat Vomit Nightmare!

Warlocks Grim and Withered Hags
4Plump DJs
Replumped

Early 2000s breakbeat was such a fun time, and nobody could touch the Plumps. A mix of (mostly) their best tunes from those time will always be the best party cd.

Scram
5Shade Empire
Sunholy

Omega Arcane will always be a next-level album, one that Shade Empire will never match, so would always rather they move to something else. This improves on their last with more coherence, and the clean vocals fit in smoother as well.

This Coffin an Island
6Majesties
Vast Reaches Unclaimed

Nice old school melodeath vibes that don't sound as dated or as unoriginal as it otherwise could.

Our Gracious Captors
7JAAW
Supercluster

Andy Cairns goes full industrial-noise rock that was occasionally hinted at with T?, awesome artwork too.

Rot
8Moonlight Sorcery
Horned Lord of the Thorned Castle

Can't escape some early-Kalmah vibes, but the symphonic elements definitely elevate it. More spins will probably lead to a higher rating too.

Vihan verhon takaa
9Enter Shikari
A Kiss For The Whole World

Follows a downward trajectory that Nothing Is True started, despite its superior production. A fun album, but lacks any real decisive punches.

(pls) set me on fire
10Spanish Love Songs
No Joy

An imrovement on Brave Faces, with a surprising amount of positivity amongst the general level of expected misery! Still feel like they should push the keyboards more.

Rapture Chaser
