| Pearljamology (revised)
The albums of Pearl Jam in rorder of preference. | 9 | | Pearl Jam Vitalogy
Vitalogy had the potential to be a better album than it
actually is. Some of the band's best songs
are here. But it definitely has more skip-worthy
moments than any other PJ album, and you may
as well finish your listen on "Immortality", rather than
on the actual closing track. Besr song: "Immortality" | 8 | | Pearl Jam Backspacer
The band's latest release, Backspacer lacks some of the
creativity of other PJ records, but makes up
for it with sheer energy. If you're a fan, don't miss this
one. If you're new to the band, jam the
first 2 albums instead of this or anything else. Best
song: "Amongst the Waves" | 7 | | Pearl Jam Binaural
Binaural opens up and closes wonderfully, and is a
highly overlooked record. McCready's lead
work on here isn't his best, but the album has a lot of
texture in it and beckons repeated
listening. Best song: "Nothing As It Seems" | 6 | | Pearl Jam Yield
Yield is a pretty cool record. Entertaining from top to
bottom, it also features an impressive
hidden track. Best song "All Those Yesterdays (w/
hidden track)" | 5 | | Pearl Jam Riot Act
Riot Act used to be my least favorite by the band, but
recently it grew on me. McCready does
some fine lead work on this. Best song: "Get Right" | 4 | | Pearl Jam No Code
No Code cannot be grasped with one listen. It's easily
the band's most eclectic record. "Hail,Hail"
feels more like an opener than "Sometimes"; and "I'm
Open" is more memorable than "Around
the Bend". But the real treat is "Red Mosquito", which
features an impressive liead by McCready.
Best song: "Red Mosquito" | 3 | | Pearl Jam Pearl Jam
Pearl Jam's "comeback album" (the band never really
went away, even though they had many
issues). McCready has some epic lead work here, and
"Life Wasted" works greatly as an opener,
while "Inside Job" does a nearly-as-good job as a closer.
Best song: "Big Wave" | 2 | | Pearl Jam Vs.
Ah, Vs. If Ten made a solid a statement as any, this
album most certainly did it's part to ensure
the band's status as icons of the 90's. Where Ten might
be an easy listen, Vs. is dark, gritty, filthy
and grimy. While the singles rule hard, the real
standout here is the highly overlooked "Rats".
Best song: "Rats" | 1 | | Pearl Jam Ten
Yes, I know what you're thinking: "typical fan". But as
impressive as some of the other albums
might be (and Vs. does come dangerously close), Ten
has an emotional power that is
unparalleled. From the epic opener "Once" to the fitting
closer "Release", this album has it all:
from epic rockers to gut-wrenching ballads. Through it
all, the socially aware thematic is
prevalent, and this is one album that truly stands the
test of time. One of the best releases of the
90's. Best song: "Why Go" | |

06.17.13 | Couldn't help the focus on McCready, as he is one of my fave guitar players. But yes, Vedder also does great work on vocals. Gossard and Ament also get their job well done, and Krusen, Abruzzese and Cameron all deserve a mention. | Artuma
06.17.13 | 1 is 1 and 2 is 2 that's all that matters | zakalwe
06.17.13 | 9 is one of the best and I am, was and always will be a "typical fan." | mandan
06.17.13 | A pity BigHans probably won't see this, since he's a huge fan of early PJ. | halloway
06.17.13 | 4 is 1. The rest are near impossible to rank. Such an awesome band. | chemicalmarriage
06.18.13 | 7 is 1 for me but as far as i know I'm the only person who feels that way.
great band, really not a bad release in the discog | mandan
06.18.13 | ^yes, 7 is very underrated. I may want to listen to 5 & 8 more in the future, but I definitely appreciate the discography a lot more than I did in the past. | ncguitar
06.18.13 | I used to jam Yield more than typical fans would. Great list, PJ rocks. | JaySpiral
06.18.13 | 6 and 9 are too low. | mandan
06.18.13 | 9 has the worst closer PJ ever made. It also has very poor production. It
pretty much marked the end of their classic era and a transition to
their more experimental stuff. All the same, "Corduroy", "Nothingman",
"Betterman", "Spin the Black Circle", "Tremor Christ", and the
aforementioned "Immortality" are great songs. | mandan
06.18.13 | No Code and Binaural take a few listens to sink in. | BigHans
06.20.13 | Ill weigh in before I crash.
Ten is one of my top 5 all time albums so obviously that wins.
Vs is easily the second best.
After that they kind of went to shit. Id say Yield is 3rd best because it kind of sounds like Ten, then No Code, because it has Off He Goes, which rules, then Vitology because Corduroy rules hard, then I dont know maybe Backspacer because Just Breathe rules, I always hated Riot Act and Binaural, so those are interchangeable, and for whatever reason, I dont remember ever actually listening to all of the S/T | NordicMindset
06.29.13 | 1 and 2 are 1 and 2. | mryrtmrnfoxxxy
06.29.13 | actually 9 is 1 and 1 is closer to 6 |
