| 2014 - Meh Year For Hip-hop?
Diskus pls. List is just shit that I actually did listen to for the majority of the year. | 1 | | Sean Leon narcissus, THE DROWNING OF EGO
Canadian dude with the "CAKE, CAKE CAKE CAKE CAKE" producer bringing some highly superficial
ignorance with a sense of self-awareness, my personal favorite out of the whole year, search
Pretty Girls Put Boys In Cemeteries (or just: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMKTPCLO2UY) | 2 | | Mac Miller Faces
Definition of a filler mixtape but enjoyable at least, and all without a Jay feature. | 3 | | Schoolboy Q Oxymoron
The hype train fucking derailed but I still enjoyed the majority of the effort, still feeling fucked over in a sense due to the whole sampling issues
causing the album to turn an ear more towards radio appeal than the genuine gangster shit back on H&C, hopefully we'll see some restoration
on the next release. | 4 | | Isaiah Rashad Cilvia Demo
To be honest, I fell asleep during my 2nd listen through of this shit but it's still p. cool for a
mellow mixtape with some slight emo insights on the trimmings. | 5 | | Domo Genesis Under The Influence 2
Pretty much what it says, direct sequel to Dom's growth, only wishing I'd catch more of the
same dude that was over Rusty and SS4. | 6 | | Freddie Gibbs and Madlib Pinata
Obligatory mention since everyone's turning this (or RTJ2) into their rap AOTY, I'm still not
getting the absolute hype behind it but the chemistry between Gibbs and a Madlib beat is still an
impressive one. | 7 | | Mick Jenkins The Water[s]
Another album I almost slept through (un)surprisingly with the production being as soft as the
running waters Jenkins is constantly rapping about but a pretty good lyrical showcase regardless. | 8 | | ASAP Ferg Ferg Forever
Pure whip material, tracks 7 - 11 gotta go though. Let It Go 2 & Doe-Active are my candidates
for some of the hypest production of the year. + NV is the literal equivalent to Domo x Tyler -
Super Market and we need more of these tracks. | 9 | | Run The Jewels Run The Jewels 2
Obligatory mention, haven't gotten to yet with me being weighed down by absolutely nothing but
not being able to understand shit El-P means to this day, I'll sit down and listen with RapGenius
open in another tab sometime. | 10 | | J. Cole 2014 Forest Hills Drive
Surprisingly kept me awake through the entire LP, good shit Jermaine. Now if only you could dull
down that ego, turn down the diet Drake tendencies and make more shit like the first half,
specially A Tale of Two Citiez. | |

01.15.15 | Not in order of what I thought was best btw, most of my year was taken up by Grizzly Bear, Burial & Tame Impala when not fucking with a rap release.
And in no way do I mean the year was bad but when it came down to it, I just didn't find anything too amazing despite the hype surrounding a bunch of these releases. | Dodenakker
01.15.15 | Where's Clipping and Busdriver?
| ComeToDaddy
01.15.15 | It wasn't phenomenal, but it deserves better than ehhhh. You're missing the new Sadistik, Cunninlynguists, Clipping and Hail Mary Mallon which would all place above most of the releases in this list, except for 6/7/9 which were all great. | Cygnatti
01.15.15 | Potsy is about to destroy your face. | Sniff
01.15.15 | Where's Underachievers? | Slut
01.15.15 | Lol hip hop more like garbage | thacoconut94

01.15.15 | meh | KILL
01.15.15 | hippie to the hippie
| Mewcopa0
01.15.15 | 4 was pretty boring
I was not very understanding of the hype for 6 for a while. After quite a few listens though it's just a really well structured album and it's subtle.
Busdriver's new album is really good though, it was my #2 hip-hop album this year. | TheCrocodile
01.15.15 | Diamond District was cool though. | Skoj
01.16.15 | Vince Staples released a banger EP that you should check out if you havent. | ExplosiveOranges
01.16.15 | RTJ2, CLPPNG, Lese Majesty, NOTM, Pinata, and If There's A Hell Below were all pretty solid. | RadioSuicide
01.16.15 | no love for my krazy life? | Veldin
01.16.15 | Busdriver (who is incredible live, so check him out on tour)
Hail Mary Mallon
Cunninlynguists new EP
