06.01.17 | If you think you can put any stock in cooking/meal prep, challenge yourself and try Whole30. I won't go into the details here but essentially you only eat meat, veggies, fruit, and a few other types of food for 30 days. No calorie counting. Eat as much as you want (within reason).
My wife and I did it and we each lost around 15-20 pounds over the course of a month (a few pounds came back immediately after the diet due to regaining water weight. We also slept better and had more energy generally.
It's good for a few reasons - not a long-term diet, but it will influence your eating habits afterwards so you generally eat better after completing it.
You'll detox off of sugar (by far the hardest part) and learn to appreciate natural flavors more which helps too.
It's a tough 30 days but it was really the only way for me to diet because of how restrictive it was. Solid rules and boundaries help because otherwise your brain will find a way to have you eating shit again within a few days/weeks. |
NastyCrab
06.01.17 | Hope that helps. Also try eating more anti-pizza. |

06.01.17 | Lots of veggies, lean meat, less dairy and less carbs. Also just don't snack often and eat smaller portions. Generally avoid anything you don't cook yourself. Batch cooking is also a great tip - make a big thing of lentil soup for example... eat for a few meals and freeze the rest. |

06.01.17 | If you want to lose fat, reducing your calorie intake is the way to go. You need to ensure that everyday, by the bed time, your body is in a caloric deficit so that throughout the day your burned more calories than you consumed.
This does NOT mean you starve yourself, as that will actually cause you to retain more weight since the body thinks food is in low supply. Think about meals (and especially beverages) that you really don't need and cut them out of your diet. Do this everyday and in a few weeks you will notice a change in the scale.
You definitely need your protein, carbs, and fats. Do not neglect any of those macros. This can be difficult, but try to eat more protein, followed by carbs, and then fats.
And last but not least (this is by far the most underrated tip), DRINK A LOT OF WATER. I don't care how many times you need to fuckin pee, keep drinking even if you don't think you're thirsty. Carry a water bottle to work/school and keep one beside you at home. Water is critical for good health. That pee needs to be clear always. |

06.01.17 | Just eat real food, as much as you want, vegetables, fruit, meat. No processed food. |

06.01.17 | Get rid of processed food as much as possible. Loose every drink except water (coffee and tee are fine ofc, but if you're thirsty drink water). As far as I can tell, most nutritionists seem to agree that sugar/to much carb is the big bad wolf when it comes to eating healthy so try and stay away from stuff that is super heavy on sugar. |

06.01.17 | Oatmeal is a really good carb option. Lots of carbs and dietary fiber and it keeps you satiated for a long fuckin time. However, go with raw oats and mix it yourself with milk or water. Don't get that ready-made Quaker stuff, it has a lot of unnecessary sugar. |

06.01.17 | download my fitness pal, figure out how many cals you should be eating a day, start tracking it, limit carbs / eat as much protein as you can, try to eat nutritious foods, supplement with vitamins if and when necessary, when you eat carbs try to eat good whole slow digesting carbs (oats, whole grains vs sugars, white bread) |
hal1ax
06.01.17 | Cut out ALL processed foods. It is particularly important to forego consumption of any sort of process sugar // dairy // carbohydrate. You don't need to completely cut out carbs, but Try to only stick with brown rice // oats // yams // fruit // veg // seeds.
Portion control is important. Instead of eating a few large meals, eat several smaller meals. Also Try to not eat within the 4-5 hour window before going to bed.
Eat high protein meals and high good saturated fats. Saturated fats will give you longer lasting, sustained energy, whereas carbs are more fast-acting bursts of energy
If you are feeling up for it, a lot of people swear by intermittent fasting. This is when you self-induce states of ketosis. You fast intermittently every days, stopping food intake 4-5 hours before bed and then not eating again until the following afternoon. This forces your body to tap into and expend its fat storages. If this is zapping your energy , a cup of coffee with a tablespoon of coconut oil in the morning can help. Also, exercising in the morning, amid periods of intermittent fasting will propagate the ketosis mechanism, and u will dip into even more of these fat storages. But yea Try to start with Just adjustments in your food intake and go from there. Good luck ! |
kris.
06.01.17 | i dropped 45ish pounds in 6 or so months on keto. basically limit your carb intake to ~20-50g a day. it worked for me much more than simply counting calories for some reason. it's hard as fuck to stay on though, you really start to miss bread and shit after a few weeks. |

The thing that made the biggest difference for me was refusing to diet, I am instead just making changes to eat healthier in general no stupid gimmicks or counting calories. Find healthy recipes you enjoy and make them, drink lots of water.
The hardest but most important part for me was weaning myself off junk food going cold turkey just wasn't working. I cut out one junk food item at a time, slowly, over the course of months until I could go without junk food anymore.
I eat a lot of brussel sprouts, veggie stir fries, salmon and tuna. Eat eggs with spinach mixed in every day for breakfast. |

yeah. Obviously calories in calories out is one way to lose weight. But if that's the only dietary advice you follow you're gonna have problems. It's important to know roughly how many calories your food intake is but it's way more important to be eating nutrient-rich foods. I don't think I've ever met anyone who has gained weight eating salmon, spinach, and sweet potatoes. |

the only thing that matters in terms of weight gain or loss is is calorie intake versus calorie expenditure

06.05.17 | @jwt that study is one of the ones thats most cited in the anti-diet soda media camp but even in its conclusion it clearly states there is zero conclusive causative relationship, and that the results probably just indicate that the portion of the population that tends to drink diet soda will otherwise also be more likely to lead an unhealthy lifestyle which results in the mentioned issues

yeah the thing with this and many many other variables is that they are hard to test for for potential effects on cancers, things like alzheimers, etc, and yeah i think the best thing to do is just drink water sure, but regardless the reality is there have been a lot of research done on artificial sweetners and they have been shown to be benign in said research
maybe if you drink 8l of coke zero a day for a decade it increases your chance of developing brain tumors by some percentage or something, maybe not, nearly impossible to test for, and the same can be said for other causes of cancer unfortunately
im not advocating for diet soda consumption, what i am advocating is doing your own research for all things in life, the media these days is more fucked than ever, click bait is all that matters, even that article you posted is part of that, sensationalizing what is considered to be a pretty useless study and taking it out of context for clicks |
