The Albums That Shaped My Musical Taste
This is the list of albums that had the greatest influence on shaping my musical taste into what it is today. They may not be my favourite albums now, but they are what drove me to find out the bands I currently love. |
| 1 | | Green Day Nimrod
The first punk album I ever heard, at the time (I was around 14) I was listening to East 17, this changed everything! |
| 2 | | Manic Street Preachers Everything Must Go
While Green Day was getting me into the punk side of music such as NOFX and Lagwagon, the Manics got my attention to the rockier side of things. |
| 3 | | Nirvana Nevermind
Probably the first 'heavy' album I ever heard, as is probably case with many people my age. |
| 4 | | Slipknot Slipknot
Nirvana got me into heavier music than the Manics, then Slipknot made me interested in ever heavier music. I know there are a lot of Slipknot haters, but I can't deny the influence they've had. |
| 5 | | Hundred Reasons Ideas Above Our Station
(It was actually 'One' but sputnik doesn't have it listed). My first taste of post-hardcore style music (yes, I know they are a poppier version), and I absolutely fell in love with it! |
| 6 | | Gary Moore Blues Alive
By this time I was starting to learn to play guitar, this gave me an appreciation of the great guitar players. Gary Moore was the first I listened to and he really blew me away, an absolutely incredible guitarist. |
| 7 | | Cradle of Filth Cruelty and the Beast
These guys originate not far from my home town. They influenced me to the dark side of the force. |
| 8 | | Thursday Full Collapse
I have to admit, I didn't like this album the first time I heard it. A then revisited it a few months later and it really grew on me to become an album I really love. It further drove me into the world of post-hardcore. |
| 9 | | SikTh Let the Transmitting Begin
I had never heard anything so crazy and utterly brilliant! This made me seek out other wacky and technical music. |
| 10 | | At The Drive-In Relationship of Command
Not really an album that influenced me, as it was Hundred Reasons who helped me discover ATDI, but I was once asked if I could sum up my musical taste in one album. This would be it. Energetic, emotional, mixing up heavier and soft parts in both music and vocals and an album that never gets old. Probably my favourite album ever. |
