11.29.12 | like the difference between foreplay and sex dude |
klap
11.29.12 | not too noticeable unless you're in a professional set-up, much less mid-level headphones |

11.29.12 | flac is cool for elite shit like limp or obie but fuck it for most bullshit |
Trebor.
11.29.12 | aflac is the best car insurance if that answeres your ? |
taylormemer
11.29.12 | Probably not, but it depends on how good the phones are. You say "mid-level" which to my eyes sounds like they won't be good enough, in conjunction with all the other environmental sounds that surround you (computer noise, dogs barking, traffic noise, people screaming at you...). The only way for you would be to do a basic ABX test using the Foobar plugin (or just AB blind with iTunes or WMP) and see if you personally can tell. You will get posts from people here saying "YES ABSOLUTELY" and "Eh, I can't tell" and "What's the point?", so really you should probably see if, in a blind test, YOU can actually tell. FLAC is essentially uncompressed audio (when rebuilt) so it's comparable to WAV, in fact, it's exactly the same. Sure, MP3 and FLAC are markedly different on a bit for bit level. Can you tell? Will that difference, however audible, affect your enjoyment of the music? |

11.29.12 | Unless you got high end gear then no. But if you have then the difference is obvious sometimes.
Another advantage of FLAC tho is that you got an uncompressed file (its smaller than a wav but is lossless in terms of musical information) that you can make fresh mp3's or AAC's or whatever whenever you want.
If you convert lossy to lossy it will sound terrible. |

11.29.12 | "which to my eyes sounds like..."
you can hear with your eyes holy shit that's pro |
foxblood
11.29.12 | listening to your favorite albums for the first time in flac with good headphones is like hearing them for the first time |
taylormemer
11.29.12 | Yeah, I practice it so much that I can hear with my eyes and see with my ears! Holy shit I know. |
menawati
11.29.12 | Main thing you seem to lose in mp3's is the soundstage thats why they sometimes sound 'flat'. On half decent gear you should notice the difference in that the position of the instruments feel more defined and spread out where they should be. Thats using speakers tho, headphones fuck up the soundstage by isolating left and right too much so it's all smoke and mirrors at the end of the day. |

11.29.12 | i do lots of elite shit all the time cuz im just doin me |

11.29.12 | im like really fcking cool and buff |
bloc
11.29.12 | Eh, I don't really have any high tech gear to appreciate it (assuming it really is of higher quality) so I stay away. |
HitlerIsPissed
11.29.12 | idk, i use regular headphones. i cant tell the difference between 192kbps and 320kbps in most cases, although 128kbps or anything lower is noticeably worse. |
menawati
11.29.12 | neither do i but some guy demoed me once in a shop trying to sell me stuff and the differences were obvious, i just use 320s but get flacs when i can so got a master copy |
demigod!
11.29.12 | i honestly don't hear the difference, but then again I don't have a pair of $300 headphones to listen to through |
climactic
11.29.12 | i have pretty nice headphones and 320 is great, FLAC is good but not necessary at all |
Ignimbrite
11.29.12 | not at all worth it |
Hyperion1001
11.29.12 | if you have a shitty set up (if youre asking is flac good you do) its not worth it |
wacknizzle
11.29.12 | 320kbps is fine, sometimes you're lucky if you can even find it. I only care for flac with my favorite albums and the production is good enough to deserve it. |
Scoot
11.29.12 | 320 is better, waaaaay less storage space for slightly lesser quality |
