Scream 3 - Oof. Now this is a tricky one. Columbine really messed up which could have been a really great closer to the franchise. This one is still enjoyable on surface level for me, but goddamn does it hurt to watch knowing what could have been. Lots more jokes (which are pretty funny to be fair) and a LOT less blood. The voice changer idea was probably the dumbest idea this franchise ever had and never fails to take me out of the movie. The killer reveal and rewriting of the Scream lore was beyond stupid and I hate hate hateeeeee it. And the opening kill murdered one of the most entertaining characters for basically no reason. I wish so badly that I could change this movie. But like I said, it is enjoyable if I turn my brain off, so it's not completely awful - it just hurts. 4.7/10. | 4 | | Suffocation Pierced from Within
Scream (2022) - This one is a little middle of the road for me. It has some kills that feel more brutal, and I really love that they developed Dewey's character in a way that they hadn't before this. That being said, I don't love the new cast AS much as Scream 4. They are adequate, but just not as memorable for me. Also, this is the first time that I actually guessed who the killers were, which is not a good thing for this franchise when that is half the fun. Still, it was very competently made and there was a clear love for the franchise here, which adds to the fun a lot. Some truly great moments, but just not as many as I am used to with this franchise. (also, I was upset that the twist ending wasn't what fans wanted for all these years!) Ready or Not was better. 6.8/10. | 3 | | Cryptopsy None So Vile
Scream 4 - This one feels a bit separated from the original trilogy, but is still a phenomenal horror entry on its own. The original cast will always be the best, but there are a surprising amount of charming new additions in this movie. The killer reveal is one of my favorites in the franchise, and the entire hospital ending is one of the most satisfying in horror history imo. Great commentary on where horror was at that point, as always with this franchise. Wonderful gory kills, which is great for me because I love my carnage candy. A breath of fresh air after Scream 3 and it's a shame that this was Wes' last entry. 8.5/10 | 2 | | Gorguts Obscura
Scream 2 - Tbh one of the best horror sequels of all time. The opening scene is not quite as terrifying as the first Scream, but it might actually be more interesting. The killers aren't QUITE as charismatic as the first, but they make for an incredibly satisfying twist and a really fun ending with the stage setting. Great banters about sequels and has that same self aware charm that all fans loved about the first one. 9/10 | 1 | | Morbid Angel Altars of Madness
Scream (1996) - This is an obvious choice, but it's a classic for a reason. A breath of fresh air during one of the most boring times for horror ever. One of the best opening scenes to any horror movie to this very day. Combine that with a really effective whodoneit, a simple but effective mask/terrifying voice for the villain, unusually charismatic characters, hilarious self-awareness that also subverts a ton of rules for the genre while also playing into them - this movie is a A+, 10/10 horror masterpiece. I personally still prefer A Nightmare On Elm St, but I totally get why this is a lot of peoples favorite Wes Craven film. | |

02.02.22 | 1 > 4 > 2 > 5 > 3
Massive fan, Ontario finally just got out of lockdown so I caught the new one last night. It was really fun! Quite a bit better than 3. But I think a lot of what this one is trying to do was just done so much better in 4. I find myself going back to 4 so much that I like it quite a bit more than 2 at this point even. 1 will forever be the goat tho. | DominionMM1
02.03.22 | theres a scream remake? why? i mean i know WHY but....why? | BAT
02.03.22 | still need to see the new one but otherwise i stand by this ranking. the original isn't my fav wes craven movie but it's probably his most polished horror movie. 2nd movies fun but lil less brutal/impactful than the first. scream3 is the weakest but it's aged as an interesting production battle/middle finger to the weinsteins, annd the 4ths actually a lot of fun.
i diiid binge the scream tv series, eh its betterish than scream 3 but the suspension of disbelief gets pretty immense. lack of any plot connection to the original movies was an odd choice, and so was dropping all the characters for a shortened 3rd season. | conesmoke
02.03.22 | The twists at the end of the second one in the theatre just keep on coming |
