All Hope Is Gone

The messiest of the bunch. This album has some great tunes, but it feels like a bunch of tracks randomly thrown together like a b side album rather than a complete work. Also, in some cases only half of the songs really pull their weight (see: Gehenna, awesome start, weak as fuck pre chorus and chorus). I only occasionally jam individual songs from this one.

.5: The Gray Chapter

Sarcastophe, AOV and the Negative One are great jams. Killpop, Devil In I, and Skeptics cheesy as fuck chorus don’t do it for me, though. Album is like 60-70% awesome, though and I actually listen to this quite a bit. Just because this is at the lower end doesn’t mean this is a bad album imo.

Iowa

Now, I know this is a fan favorite and I’m probably going to get shit for this but hear me out: if this entire album was on par with the first several songs, it would be #1, but personally I feel the front half is noticeably superior to the second half. Still a great album, and I have many memories of jamming this one nonstop on my CD back when this first came out, but as it’s aged, the bad parts feel more cheesy than they used to. Still a constant jam though.

Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses

Probably their most musically mature, but tbh I fucking hated this album when it was first released. I think it was either my first or second year of high school and I was coming off the high of Iowa and then this family friendly Slipknot came out. Took me years to come around and truly appreciate the experimentation of Vermillion and Danger. Fees like they grew up here.

We Are Not Your Kind

Now, this may be jumping the gun because I just heard it this morning for the first time, but it’s been on repeat all day and I feel fairly confident about this placement. Although Spiders still doesn’t fit for me, this is the only album from their newer era that I can jam all the way through and love mostly every track. Corey is at top form as well and the lyrics aren’t jumping out at being as cringe as possible, which is a chief complaint from me about this band.

Slipknot

I first heard this album when it came out in 1999. My brother showed me this album and it was the only other metal band other than Metallica and Slayer that I have ever heard, so I have a bit of a soft spot for this one. Other than that. This has the most terrifying atmosphere and an energy that is almost the level of Iowa.
