Fallout 3 < New Vegas

07.22.15 | Fallout 1 is so directionless that I gave up before I even got above ground. I'm not much into RPG's though. |
KeithStone582
07.22.15 | @dbizzles
I tried it years ago and did the same thing. I'm older and have a lot more patience now, and the experience was much better. |
Lakes.
07.22.15 | It's a great game and only directionless compared to modern stuff |
Lakes.
07.22.15 | Fallout 2 is even better in a lot of ways, although worse in some others and I think it's maybe a bit too long |
Piglet
07.22.15 | i'm playing fallout 2 right now actually and i'm enjoying it a hell of a lot more than 3 |
MeatSalad
07.22.15 | Really gotta give the first game a try some day, i absolutely love new vegas |
Grizzlypyro
07.22.15 | Bro wait til you try Fallout 2, 1 is a total cakewalk in comparison |
Trebor.
07.22.15 | so lame that fallout 3 doesn't have bosses |
rocketsfall
07.22.15 | so lame that fallout 3 doesn't have bosses
who cares its like the best game ever made |
Lakes.
07.22.15 | the cool thing about the master in fallout 1 is you don't even have to fight him, you can just blow up the base and never encounter him or talk to him |
Trebor.
07.22.15 | 'who cares its like the best game ever made"
i mean no |
rocketsfall
07.22.15 | yeah |
dbizzles
07.22.15 | @keithstone, I actually think my patience has even dwindled since then. The last "RPG" I beat was probably Kirby's Adventure on NES a few years ago, but I was unemployed for a few weeks, so I literally had nothing else to do.
My attention span gets shittier and shittier by the year, I swear. |
dbizzles
07.22.15 | OvDeath, I literally was just running around in the shelter for like an hour and ended up beating up some kid or some shit and couldn't figure out how the hell t o get out of there. I call it directionless because the game never really told me what to do. I can admit that I gave up pretty easily and may or may not have been paying much attention to the dialogue. I have a tendency to just tap through them, which is a big mistake in a game that requires your full attention. |
Lakes.
07.22.15 | Kirby's Adventure isn't an RPG lol. Great game though |
dbizzles
07.22.15 | Haha that's why I put RPG in quotes. Kirby is the closest thing to an RPG I've played since Diablo III. |
Gwyn.
07.22.15 | "who cares its like the best game ever made"
not even the best game of its year |
rocketsfall
07.22.15 | OPINIONS WOW HOLY SHIT |
ZombicidalMan
07.22.15 | replayed 3 and new vegas recently, and I really enjoy fallout 3 more. I think there's just a lot of memorable places and quests, whereas going through new vegas felt like a chore to me |
Lakes.
07.22.15 | new vegas is way better to me and 3 won't even run on my computer without crashing every 5 minutes no matter what i try |
ZombicidalMan
07.22.15 | most people seem to like new vegas more. I definitely liked the story more than F3's hero bullshit, but I found the landscape of new vegas boring to explore. fallout 3 had its fair share of shitty DC buildings and grey rocks, but there were better places in between imo |
rocketsfall
07.22.15 | downtown dc is so much cooler than desert it felt so much more memorable |
zaruyache
07.22.15 | got new vegas on steam summer sale and I stopped playing it soonafter because there was no innate "sprint" option which made getting anywhere pretty aggravating. I did snipe some dude who was just sitting outside, and murdered a guy in a bar, though, so that was fun. :-] |
Lakes.
07.22.15 | ^ there's a mod for that |
zaruyache
07.22.15 | Yeah but I didn't feel like figuring out how modding actually works since I've yet to use any. Figured I'd just keep it downloaded until I felt guilty enough to pick it up again. I'm sure I'll regret putting it off, but eh. |
ZombicidalMan
07.22.15 | pretty much download the mod and start the game up again...
Going to re-install Fallout 1 tonight in honour of this list m/ |
MeatSalad
07.23.15 | New vegas shits on fallout 3 for the sole reason that bethesda can't write a convincing storyline or put together a believable world to save their lives |
rocketsfall
07.23.15 | new vegas had a convincing storyline? l o l |
MeatSalad
07.23.15 | Decently enough, but it's really the wealth of choices in new vegas' main storyline and side quests that sets it above, whereas fallout 3 offers almost nothing in the way of choices, and whenever it does give you a choice it's always between two half-baked good vs. Evil choices
The writing in regards to character dialogue in new vegas is also objectively better |
rocketsfall
07.23.15 | whenever it does give you a choice it's always between two half-baked good vs. Evil choices
so does new vegas like exactly |
MeatSalad
07.23.15 | Lol did you even get to the strip |
rocketsfall
07.23.15 | ncr vs slave traders hmm tough choice mr house is obviously a bad choice as well leaving one good choice and two bad ones. so uh did you play the game? |
ZombicidalMan
07.23.15 | no, new vegas had some great neutral choices, especially when it came to the main quests. that being said, choice has never drawn me to buy a game, it's the actual gameplay. and imo F3 wipes the floor with vegas in terms of enjoyment
|
MeatSalad
07.23.15 | You completely disregarded the yes man path, which functions as a "do whatever the fuck you want" choice and makes the game's storyline as open and free as an open world rpg should be. You can kill every npc on the map and still get a relevant ending that way. What does fallout 3 have that even compares to that? |
rocketsfall
07.23.15 | i dont really care about that tbh. the desert was so boring. bombed out dc was amazing. |
Lakes.
07.23.15 | i agree with meat on all counts |
iambandersnatch
07.23.15 | "so lame that fallout 3 doesn't have bosses"
bah, bosses are overrated. I actually think they are terrible in a lot of games (Deus Ex: HR being an obvious recent-ish example) |
Lakes.
07.23.15 | yeah with bosses it's either do it right or don't do it at all |
rocketsfall
07.23.15 | bosses with vats would be stupid anyway like whats the fun |
MeatSalad
07.23.15 | Bosses in fallout 3/new vegas would be awful, the legate fight at the end of new vegas is lame as fuck. Its honestly more satisfying to talk him down with the 100 speech check than to actually fight him |
rocketsfall
07.23.15 | totally agree meat that fight was super awful and a drag |
MeatSalad
07.23.15 | There's a ton of cool shit to find in NV but so much of it gets completely ignored by the main storyline which is a shame. I feel like the main quests don't even touch half the map, especially if you use abuse fast travel |
demigod!
07.23.15 | new vegas feels so much more like a real living world than dc, mostly thanks to the great writing
dc might be a bit more visually interesting than nv, but that's about all it's got over it
I'm on a bit of an rpg kick right now should probably give FO 1 & 2 a try. as soon as I'm done letting Morrowind consume my soul |
Tyler.
07.23.15 | metro in 3 is kinda annoying yeah |
ZombicidalMan
07.23.15 | "I feel like the main quests don't even touch half the map" [2]
this is my biggest gripe about NV. now, I'm all for doing side quests and having fun outside the story, so I naturally discovered most places anyways. but I feel like the story should guide you through a lot of the world... of course, F3 fell pretty short of that, too |
Gwyn.
07.23.15 | "I feel like the main quests don't even touch half the map"
this is one of my favorite things about it
It feels like it lets you choose whether you're interested in seeing more shit or not, and it's so much more fun to deviate out of your way to find cool shit than the cool shit just finding you |
MeatSalad
07.23.15 | That is definitely true gwyn
It's a great feeling finding an area with a whole new string of side quests or a new companion after already putting 100+ hours into the game. Sometimes I'm surprised how much they managed to smash into the game despite it being unfinished |
