01.11.26 | I love going to the gym and have been going for 30 years. Just remember, we are creatures of habit. You’re either in the habit of going to the gym or you’re in the habit of not going to the gym. I’ve settled into both phases throughout different periods of my life. You must make it a lifestyle. |
AlkemestRedux
01.11.26 | Hell yeah get those gains! We've been going several times a week for the past three years and it's a game changer for feeling better overall. It's also a good opportunity to jam some tunes. |
Shuyin
01.11.26 | I've kinda gotten accustomed to it, been going 3-4 times each week for almost a year and I feel kinda down when I don't get the chance to go, as if my own body misses the lifts
Sadly, I'm also a loner, been training all by myself all this time, kinda sucks but it is what it is |
RVAHC13
01.11.26 | Good job keeping with it
Once some of the resolutionists clear out I’m gonna start going back, I’d like to fit into a medium shirt again |

01.11.26 | I'm currently struggling with going back after the holidays. I've been a real piece of shit since Christmas Eve lol |

01.11.26 | "Once some of the resolutionists clear out I’m gonna start going back"
The horde! I feel you, it was absolutely packed today and I was really lucky to get the wires for my back workout. Leg day this week was also hell, felt like I was fighting for the machines lmao
They should start quitting in the next few weeks. One of the trainers of my local gym told me they have an absurd number of members that never show up while still paying the subscription. |

01.11.26 | "I'm currently struggling with going back after the holidays."
it can be frustrating atm because of new years promises, but dont let it get you down |
AlkemestRedux
01.11.26 | Oh yeah the newbies flood and then drop off. It's good seeing more people at the gym but also gotta really adjust my workouts lol
Basically for arm and back days I just camp on a free weight bench for like 80% of it when it's crowded. Good luck getting a bench press spot. |

01.11.26 | Good for you shuyin. Gym is life |

01.11.26 | Gym is life! Post workout calmness never gets old, except today, my right arm is killing me lmao. Totally worth it tho |

01.11.26 | Lmao I hate the New Years takeover
I'm gonna lat pulld- oh that's taken, how about row-oh those are also occupied fuck it I guess it's leg day now let's just find a squat ra-
Swear the gym triples it's business for like a 3 week margin lmao
Good luck with your gains brother, you'll go through phases of being hardstuck but don't let the frustrations tear ya down. You'll continue to smash barriers to come. |

01.11.26 | Going to the gym has been one thing keeping me consistently sane throughout the last two decades of my life. When everything goes to shit around you, you can still have control over your body and make yourself feel good. |

01.11.26 | i hate working out. But i still go to the gym regularly. I do feel better. But it's never not gonna be something i suffer through more than enjoy. Post-workout peace? It's called being tired as shit, bro. |

I feel you bro
"Post-workout peace? It's called being tired as shit, bro."
Sure, but not in an exhausted, just ended my 8 hour shift way, I'd say its a good stress relief feeling. Then go home and leave your demons outside, I can sleep a lot better nowadays |

01.11.26 | @Dedes that’s why free weights will always be better
Legs were always my favorite, i do my lunges and squats with dumbbells instead of barbell/smith machine |

01.12.26 | Have you considered TRT, Kimm? |

01.12.26 | Yo I have so much dude energy already, idk if that's the solution for me.
Prob just need to start taking rest /days/ instead of rest /years/, honestly. |

01.12.26 | my favorite lift is deadlifts but as a 33 year old geriatric I’ve had to wrestle with the reality that I may not be able to heavy deadlift anymore.
the back just wasn’t what it was at a ripe 22. |
Christbait
01.12.26 | I work out about 3x/week at home. I do 2500m on the rower for some cardio then planks and leg lifts for core, then finish with a few sets of dumbbells. I've also been off-and-on TRT for a few years and, more recently, noticed how TRT helped me present with more muscle mass than I currently have. Hopefully can get back on it next week. Certainly not a gym bro but I've been pretty routinized for the past year or so and certainly feel and look much better at 36 than I have for a while.
I've never dealt with significant weight issues but getting into shape and looking fit has snuck into my psyche ever since I got serious about working out.
Also I'm a weirdo in that I don't listen to music when I exercise. Don't know how many folks are familiar with Red Letter Media, but they are my source of entertainment and distraction during workouts. For me that helps the workout move faster than trying to get pumped up listening to songs. |
AlkemestRedux
01.12.26 | I could see a Mr. Plinkett episode being pretty great for a workout honestly lol
And yeah, at this point I just avoid deadlifts. It's not worth it at 35. I can do the press machine, RDLs and kettlebell swings instead and not worry about permanently fucking up my back. My kinda stupid vanity goal for this year though is to be able to curl 60lb dumbbells and also do pullups. Made it from 25 to 50lbs for curls last year so I think I can do it. |
Christbait
01.12.26 | Currently building up with 15lbs. 3 sets of 50 (alternating) and 3 sets of 20 overhead (together), plus additional sets sitting down until failure. I'd like to progress towards 25lbs eventually since that is what most interchangeable dumbbell sets max out at. |
AlkemestRedux
01.12.26 | Hell yeah that's some solid reps. You can definitely make it up to 25! And I also feel the whole feeling better in the mid 30s than in a while. It's wild how just consistently doing some weights or resistance training makes your body fall into place.
I also gotta plug barre classes. I was skeptical when I started going, but they really do pay off. They work all those weird muscles that are easy to ignore on the gym floor. Highly recommend especially for leg and hip mobility and strength. |
Shuyin
01.12.26 | "2 sets to failure is the way broskis"
Yesss! low volume/high intensity is the way to go. Only go for 3-5 sets in compound exercises like bench press and squats. At a point I found myself doing 2+ hours workouts and being absolutely drained, now I can do the same thing in hour and I don't stress my body as much
First 6 months I was just working on my form and seeing what worked for me, now I can go a bit harder, raising the weight while aware of what I can and cant do. I'm 37 so I can't push it too hard but I'm doing my best. I never did 1 rep sets on the bench press to see how much I can lift, besides, since I train alone, I'm a bit sceptical about higher weights. So I go for the incline bench and work with 8-10 reps for each set. Last chest day I did 5 sets of 55kg each with 8 reps, slow and steady, hopefully will be able to do the same next month with 60kg. Getting stronnnnnnng |

01.12.26 | incline 55kg each as in dumbells??? thats beast mode for 1 year wtf |
Shuyin
01.12.26 | lol no way, incline bench with the bar
I go for the dumbells later, 20-22kg each |
Kimm
01.12.26 | "incline 55kg each as in dumbells??? thats beast mode for 1 year wtf"
I could go full beast mode for 5 and that still wouldn't be a realistic ambition for me lol. Kudos, Shuyin.

01.12.26 | ...even with a barbell. |
Shuyin
01.12.26 | yea Barbell, sorry. Portuguese guy here lmao |
Kimm
01.12.26 | bar/barbell, whatever, I just mean like...even if I had the will and drive to achieve that, I lack the physical potential. (Also a 33 year old "geriatric", or whatever Hyperion said) |
Shuyin
01.12.26 | There's guys at my gym lifting a lot more, I stopped caring about that tho, my goal is to improve and the only opponent to beat is last weeks version of myself. Sometimes I can't overcome that and it sucks but slowly strength builds up, whats important is the consistency in the amount of times I train and the training itself, good form, etc..
So what I'm trying to say is, it doesnt matter how much you lift, you just do you and when you start noticing the improvements you get that bittersweet feeling of accomplishment. Or you can feel pain in your arm like I do right now lmao |
Feather
01.12.26 | Consistently going to the gym makes for a HUGE quality of life improvement. Good for you sticking to it! |

01.12.26 | "my goal is to improve and the only opponent to beat is last weeks version of myself."
100%, I love that. (Plateaus are normal too tho)
In my early 20s I was a lot more hung up on numbers (PRs and the scale). Looking back on that now, it seems a little crazy, but mostly just sad. I haven't worked out in a while, but it's something I'm really excited to do more consistently this year.
This thread definitely just boosted my motivation too, so thanks for that. |

Yikes. (I don't have a BBL but this is still the main reason I work out at home instead of at a public gym) |

01.12.26 | Without being so hyper focused on weights and just doing consistent training only to see myself lifting double the amount with breaking a sweat. Feelsgood
