09.13.09 | I can do without the last 3 bands but yeah, good job. I'd replace em with Darkest Hour, Hopesfall and BTBAM (I dont give a shit if you think DH and BTBAM are something else) |
qwe
09.13.09 | good list for the most part. what redsky said |

Relinquished
09.13.09 | and all that remains |
Bandido
09.13.09 | Props for ETID. I would replace Killswitch with the Bled and maybe squeeze in Haste The Day, personally, but solid list |
CustardPlug
09.14.09 | changed it up a lil cuz i dont really consider btbam or dh metalcore but w.e |
CustardPlug
09.14.09 | also august burns red kicks major ass |
Bfhurricane
09.14.09 | Looking at redsky's quote and looking at the list... you changed it to exactly what he recommended? What were the bands before? And I agree on ABR, love that band. |
CustardPlug
09.14.09 | aild and bleeding through. and i was actually considering these bands before redsky commented |
Athom
09.14.09 | cool. i have sway. |
Inveigh
09.14.09 | Yeah, I'd take out BTBAM because they're not metalcore and I'd replace them with August Burns Red. Also, I'd remove Norma Jean in favor of Bleeding Through of As I Lay Dying.
I'm definitely with you on 1, 3, 4, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 though. Good list. |
Fxxkit13
09.14.09 | How is BTBAM not metalcore? |
Inveigh
09.14.09 | They don't contain enough of the prerequisite characteristics of the genre. Just because they have a couple breakdowns does not make them metalcore, just like it doesn't make Lamb of God metalcore. |
Fxxkit13
09.14.09 | They are metalcore. |
Inveigh
09.14.09 | Meh, I disagree. They're more progressive metal (maybe even progressive death metal) than they are metalcore. |
Inveigh
09.14.09 | Are The Human Abstract metalcore? I don't personally think so. Just like I don't think Protest the Hero are metalcore. If Opeth added some breakdowns would they be metalcore? Those are the bands I think of when I hear BTBAM, and none of them are metalcore. |
Fxxkit13
09.14.09 | Breakdowns don't make bands metalcore |
Inveigh
09.14.09 | My point exactly. Why then, do you consider BTBAM a metalcore band? |
Fxxkit13
09.14.09 | because they combine qualities of metal and hardcore.
|
Inveigh
09.14.09 | Very compelling case you present there (sarcasm). Precisely what elements of hardcore are you referring to? Is it the sweep picking and technical guitar parts? Is it the growled vocals combined with the clean, Opeth-sounding ones? Is it perhaps the 7 minute songs? |
Fxxkit13
09.14.09 | http://www.myspace.com/betweentheburiedandme
metal/progressive/hardcore |
Inveigh
09.14.09 | Yes, if MySpace says it then it must be true. Why trust your ears when you can have an anonymous webmaster tell you what to think?
I asked YOU what you thought the hardcore influences were. If I wanted to know what they listed on their MySpace page I would have just gone there. |
Fxxkit13
09.14.09 | The band made their own myspace page. Hardcore is what they list themselves as. Them deciding to put Hardcore makes it clearly obvious i that they believe they contain SOMETHING hardcore in their music. That hardcore factor plus the obvious metal influence factor (evident in drums, guitar solo's and even some of the keyboard arrangements) makes them metalcore. Also many of their riffs (while original and creative) are played in a metalcore style.
|
Inveigh
09.14.09 | Dude, all you did there was tell me again that their MySpace page lists them as having hardcore influence and then you listed a bunch of reasons why they're metal or progressive. I still have yet to hear anyone tell me why these guys are considered metalCORE other than the fact that they list it on their MySpace page and they throw in the occassional (and it's not very often) breakdown.
Please elaborate on the original question. |
Fxxkit13
09.14.09 | i just said that a lot of their riffs are played in metalcore style. The fact that combine the influences of metal and hardcore into one also makes them metalcore. |
Inveigh
09.14.09 | lol, yes, but you have not listed one "hardcore influence" on the band. And I'm not sure what you mean by playing their riffs "in metalcore style." Most metalcore bands play riffs in the style of At the Gates, In Flames and Metallica. Does that make any of those bands metalcore?
At what point in an BTBAM song do you say, "oh, that right there sounds like harcore"? Maybe some post-hardcore in the emo lyrics of their older albums... but definitely no hardcore lyricism or chord progressions in their music. No sir. They don't really have a "hardcore attitude" either. |
Fxxkit13
09.14.09 | i dont think we'll ever settle this lol. Your going to think your way and i'm gonna think mine, but at least we can agree that BTABAM is pretty fucking awesome. |
Inveigh
09.14.09 | I will agree with you on that. Not my favorite band in the world, but they are insanely talented. |
Inveigh
09.14.09 | Oh, and props to CustardPlug for creating a list that got almost 50 comments and sparked some epic debate. |
Fxxkit13
09.14.09 | yes, props! |
CustardPlug
09.15.09 | wow i lold at all the comments |
shaunl6
09.16.09 | honestly i think, parkway and prom queen should be in there! |
IndieOut
10.02.09 | god no i hate prom queen. parkway drive is pretty good, but i don't think they deserve to be there over august burns red, oh sleeper, tony danza, roses dead, fear before, or he is legend. |
MusiclessLifeless
10.08.09 | August Burns Red is missing from this list. And All That Remains too. |
cirq
10.08.09 | Abr? Underoath? |
zrosschristian
10.23.09 | Needs August Burns Red and Demon Hunter
#7, 8, 10, 11, and 13 are beastly.
Well, 11 used to be good, now they suck. |
CallMeCrispy
10.23.09 | Misery Signals should be a little higher than that, atleast in the top 5. Other than that, I pretty much agree with this list. |
