Best Live Performances
The Top Ten Best Live Performances I have Seen Thus Far (June 2009) |
1 | The Scabs
SXSW 2008, the last day of the festival. The show at Threadgill's in Austin was sold out and I was up at
the front. Bob Schneider took the audience by storm and tore the little amphitheater up. The band was
super tight and sounding better than ever. |
2 | Ian Moore
This was the first time I saw Ian. The club was packed and the energy was electric. He put so much energy
into his performance that he left nothing on the stage. He played so intensely that he fell over and broke
on of his amps but kept playing the show. |
3 | Red Hot Chili Peppers
The Chili Peppers had big shoes to fill given that they are my idols...and they filled them. The set opened
poorly with 'Dani California' but toward the middle it went from great to amazing. The band played 'Nobody
Weird Like Me' and 'Higher Ground'. |
4 | Dave Matthews Band
Everyone knows that DMB can put on a great live show and this show was no exception. The jams were
excellent and the musicianship was as good as to be expected. LeRoi will be missed. |
5 | The Who
Given that they are one of the best bands in the world, I was glad to get a pair of tickets to the show. They
played a lot of their hits and some lesser known songs. Overall the set was amazing and, even though it
was only two original members, I would gladly go see them again. |
6 | Les Claypool
He played 12 songs in a two hour set. So much bass. It was beautiful |
7 | Green Day
They played through most of 'American Idiot' but also a lot of 'Dookie'. I can't wait to see them again. I
was a blast and I know it will be again. |
8 | ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead
SXSW 2009. First time listening to them and was amazed by their live show. They caused $2k worth of
damage to the club-True Rockstars. Now I have all of their albums and can't wait to see them play again. |
9 | Audioslave
Being a huge RATM fan, I wanted to see Audioslave to maybe hear some RATM songs and watch Tom
Morello and Timmy Commerford at work. Luckily, half of their set was RATM songs. It made my day, but
it's not the same. Still, great show. |
10 | The Manichean
Saw these guys for the 6th time at the Westheimer Block Party in Houston, TX and it was their best show
to date. The whole room was full and pulsing like rave. The music was brilliant and the theatrics were even
better. |
