11.01.10 Symphonic Metal

Symphonic Metal

Symphonic Metal acts you MUST listen to

If you love Symphonic Metal you almost certainly know Nightwish, whether it be from the Tarja era or from the new Anette era. Just THE perfect embodiment of the Symphonic sound.
Must listen album - Dark Passion Play
Must listen song - The Poet and the Pendulum

Less well-known, but almost on a par with the mighty Nightwish. Exceptional guitars, and a beautiful voice from Charlotte Wessels.
Must listen album - April Rain
Must listen song - I'll Reach You
3Within Temptation

Another of those bands you will know from the surface of Symphonic Metal. Never resonated with me in the same way that Nightwish did when I first heard them, but nobody can deny the beauty of the combination between instrumentation and Sharon Den Adel's voice.
Must listen album - The Silent Force
Must listen song - Angels

In a way, a much more primeval sound than the others. Take a listen to 'The Last Crusade' to try and see what I mean. Yet again though, the vocals are the highlight of the band, just an incredibly range from Simone Simons.
Must listen album - Consign To Oblivion
Must listen song - Mother of Light (a new age dawns #2)
5Stream of Passion

"WHO?" I hear you cry. A relatively unknown band, Stream of Passion are following the same vein as Within Temptation, but the guitar work is sublime on top of the beautiful texture of vocals.
Must listen album - Embrace the Storm
Must listen song - Out in the Real World
