Hey.
Hey. I used to frequent Sptunik often but took a break for a while.
In the meantime I got into shape, learned how to cook and watched
more movies than ever. However, I fell way behind on 2010 music
and I'm try to put more time into music like I used to. So here's a list
of some stuff I've been listening to over my Sputnik hiatus. Any
recommendations for 2010 music I most likely overlooked would be
much appreciated. |
1 | | Vato Negro Vato Negro
Bass and drum band with Juan Alderete and Jon Theodore? Fuck yeah. |
2 | | Portugal. The Man American Ghetto
I still jam The Satanic Satanist pretty much daily in my car, but I've come
around to American Ghetto too. Probably because I've been deprived of new
music for so long. But anyway, its a solid album and I'm definitely going to try
and catch them live again this spring. |
3 | | The Brian Jonestown Massacre Who Killed Sgt. Pepper?
Speaking of 60s revival, I got into Brian Jonestown after watching DiG! (which is
awesome by the way). I went on a streak where all I listened to was BJM for
like a week. |
4 | | Godspeed You! Black Emperor Slow Riot For New Zero Kanada
Still my favorite album of all time. I'm super excited to finally see them live in a
couple weeks in a fucking church in NYC. |
5 | | Decahedron Disconnection Imminent
Joe Lally is a damn genius. |
6 | | Deerhunter Halcyon Digest
Of the few 2010 albums I ended up listening too, this would probably be my
favorite. |
7 | | Caribou Swim
I really got into this too. |
8 | | Death From Above 1979 You're a Woman, I'm a Machine
When I first read they reformed I just about came in my pants. Next to
Godspeed reforming or jumping in a delorean to see At The Drive-In play,
DFA1979 would be the one band I would want to see live. I'm still waiting for
them to post some shows outside of a festival, but when they do I'll be all over
that. |
9 | | Q and Not U No Kill No Beep Beep
When I need some punk that's not Fugazi. |
10 | | RX Bandits The Resignation
I think I've come to terms with this being RX's best album. At least the first
half, which is pretty much perfection. |
11 | | Sleater-Kinney Dig Me Out
Anyone watch Portlandia? Seeing Carrie in a sketch show is pretty
weird/awesome. |
12 | | Battles Mirrored
So Tyondai quit and they scrapped the new album that was supposed to come
out last year, yet somehow I'm still kind of excited for their new album. |
13 | | The Weakerthans Reconstruction Site
Still amazing. |
14 | | Mew Frengers
Isn't it time for a new Mew album? |
15 | | Violent Femmes Violent Femmes
I came across these guys and immediately loved the music. Probably one of my
best discoveries of last year. |
16 | | Young Widows Old Wounds
I hear they've got a new album coming out soon, should be awesome. |
17 | | Panda Bear Person Pitch
When is Tomboy coming out? Seriously. |
18 | | Joy Division Unknown Pleasures
I saw Control a little while back and thought it was great. Such a classic album. |
19 | | Flying Lotus Cosmogramma
Another 2010 favorite. |
20 | | Converge Petitioning the Empty Sky
Still better than Jane Doe. |
21 | | Channels Waiting for the Next End of the World
J. Robbins can do no wrong. |
22 | | Superchunk Majesty Shredding
I also enjoyed this. |
23 | | The Black Keys Brothers
Is anyone else annoyed at how much The Black Keys have been selling out? |
24 | | Daughters Daughters
No reason, just Daughters. |
25 | | Fugazi Repeater
Duh. |
