Happy Birthday
I had a dream, shortly after hearing this album, where Rudy came to stay in my home. He was raucous and crass and wrecked my house and took me to parties where I was really uncomfortable. "Slowdive," while not the most impacting album I have ever experienced, is one that caused me to remember where I was when I first heard it. “Look What You Made Me Do” is already and iconic song. What’s better is that it’s the worst on the record.
A bit of a disclaimer: I’ve never listened to a Taylor Swift album. But the media frenzy surrounding this was too much to bear. Luckily I was treated to a riotous and impossibly catchy album that wears its cheese on its sleeve, all while sounding more complete and adventurous than any pop record of this size should. “reputation” is an audible tabloid full of some of the best hooks this year. | | 6 |  | Gas

2017 was a year I listened to more black metal than ever, despite not really caring about the genre anymore. Yeah, you could make some preposterous claim about how it "fits the times" or whatever, but really, black metal is just bigger than ever. If a metal band isn't black metal, then there's a good chance it at least shares some of the genre's attributes. It's everywhere and most of the time makes me feel nothing.
"Diaspora," on the other hand, makes me feel everything. It's progressive and not in name only. It's fun but not silly. And best of all, it's evocative and engaging enough to make a 20+ minute black metal song worth listening to on repeat | | 8 |  | Godflesh

I’ve said it already and I will say it again: there’s a strong case to be made for this being Godflesh’s best record. The way it fully accepts 90s conventions only to subvert them in a slow and tense progression is brilliant. It doesn’t shift, it transforms, leaving what’s at the end entirely removed from what the album started with.
