Space To Breathe is yet another proof of the Nordic supremacy regarding the intersection of jazz and progressive rock. While nothing new under the sun, first three cuts are cool, darkly and atmospheric jams that would work just the same in a party setting or in private listening sessions with headphones. In comparison, the closing trifecta of instrumentals somewhat dilutes the effect of what has come to pass, possibly due to a more pronounced inclination to jazz improvisations. Going through the deliberately monotonous, almost tone deaf, blackened punk of the first half of this album was such a drag during the first few listens, I was ready to bury the album if it went that way as a whole, but things get very interesting in the second half, as the arrangements shift to recurring themes of noisy, partly industrialized ambience. So if the first half is a generous 2.5 and the second a solid 3.5, the result is... PS: turns out, the album is a grower, and the current "good" rating is merely a placeholder...
