portal aren't going for a 'wall of sound' thing at all. what they're doing is highly unique and in my opinion remarkably well done, but you need to understand what they're going for to appreciate it. i'm assuming you haven't heard beherit either. you probably won't like it, but listening to their drawing down the moon record might put portal's music in a better perspective (it's a classic album anyway) |
