InAbsentia
11.30.11 | It's alright. Great minds think alike. |
ncguitar
11.30.11 | Opeth |
AngelofDeath
11.30.11 | Yeah, I took a while to type up my list and didn't refresh. |
Jethro42
11.30.11 | hahaha much thanks my friends. I need to try some Gojira. Never heard of Enslaved and anything you mentioned beneath it, Angel, except for Art of Life. Both of you brought nice things to the table! |
Pharoh
11.30.11 | cynic |
Detritivore
11.30.11 | Ark - Burn The Sun
Animal as Leaders
|
Jethro42
11.30.11 | Thanks Detritivore. @InAbsentia; Light of Day, Day of Darkness is indeed eargasmic
as is Riverside. Didnt listen to MotW in ages. I shall correct it. Annnd
Cynic oh yes m/ |
bloc
11.30.11 | Haken - Visions |
Tyrael
11.30.11 | BTBAM |

11.30.11 | "Yeah, I took a while to type up my list and didn't refresh."
Shit I guess they are good albums then huh? |
Metamorphosis
11.30.11 | Last Chance to Reason - Level 2 |
Jethro42
11.30.11 | @bloc; after 1 or 2 spins, that album didn't exactly click with me, not sure why. I'll give to it another chance, to see.
@Tyr; mmm I think Death and Atheist and the likes are the further I can go when it comes to brootal. |
omnipanzer
11.30.11 | Devin Townsend - Ocean Machine: Biomech
Only one I've got for you bud ;^) |
TheNotrap
11.30.11 | Great to see you're diving into more m/ waters.
Here some suggestions:
Queensryche: Rage for Order, Operation: Mindcrime, Empire or Promised Land
Savatage: Streets: A Rock Opera, Gutter Ballet or Edge Of Thorns
Crimson Glory - Transendence
Dream Theatre - Images & Words (I believe you already know this one, however...) Awake or Scenes From A Memory
Liquid Tension Experiment - Liquid Tension Experiment
Voivod - Nothingface or Angel Rat
Listen also to Maiden's Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son (close enough...)
|
AngelofDeath
11.30.11 | "Shit I guess they are good albums then huh?"
They're worth hearing, yeah. |
omnipanzer
11.30.11 | Is Cloudkicker Prog-Metal? his stuff is good too and free. |
InAbsentia
11.30.11 | "Light of Day, Day of Darkness is indeed eargasmic as is Riverside"
Yeah, that album is great. 60 minutes that feel like 10. |
xenocide.
11.30.11 | In addition to the previous recs:
Alchemist - Organasm
Hacride - Lazarus
Rishloo - Feathergun
I've browsed your ratings and noticed you haven't rated these. I suppose you'll enjoy them. |
Jethro42
11.30.11 | Awesome Townsend album that one too indeed, omni bro. Thank's
@Notrap; Yessss This is The Metal Season M/ Thanks a bunch for your recs, dude.
@InAbsentia; Damn straight! |
InAbsentia
11.30.11 | Also, try Building an Empire by Demians. Not really metal but really good nonetheless.
Check out this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DlrPRHQm_ec
Most of his songs are much longer, but this one kind of shows what Demians are all about. |
stabbler
11.30.11 | Burst - Lazarus Bird is an amazing album |
stabbler
11.30.11 | not sure if it constitutes prog, but also check out kruger (redemption through looseness), shining
(blackjazz) and (definitely prog) - anything by yakuza |
Dreamflight
11.30.11 | I second the Green Carnation rec, but I'd chose another album like A Blessing in Disguise.
Vanden Plas - Beyond Daylight - Very Dream Theaterish, without the long solos.
Oh and since you dig The Gathering and Mr Bungle, I think it wont hurt to check some Pin-Up Went Down too. Excelent female singer, and crazy songwritting like the Bungle. ;) |
BaturTogay
11.30.11 | Dream Theater - Scenes From a Memory, Images and Words, A Dreamatic Turn of Events, Awake...
Symphony X - The Divine Wings of Tragedy, V: The New Mythology Suite
Opeth - Damnation, Blackwaterpark(I personally find this too heavy and dark)
Porcupine Tree - In Absentia, Fear of A Blank Planet, Deadwing
Shadow Gallery - Digital Ghosts
Seventh Wonder - Mercy Falls |
mrguidogenio
11.30.11 | I recommend Scenes from a Memory by Dream Theater. |
Jethro42
11.30.11 | @xenocide26, much thanks.
@InAbsentia; I have couple of great songs from Mute. Thanks for that link, I'll be sure to check out Building an Empire.
@stabbler; Burst are not bad, but it's nowhere near prog to me. I'll take a look to your other recs, cheers!
@Dreamflight; It's noted. Thank's a lot man.
@Batur, I know all of them. Thanks anyway. |
turnip90210
11.30.11 | Want a polarizing record? Carbonized - Screaming Machines. Feel free to check the one before that if you want a somewhat more metal take on the template. |
InAbsentia
11.30.11 | @Jethro: I hate Mute... |
JamieTwort
11.30.11 | "Haken - Visions"
I listened to some of that earlier today and I've gotta say I found it rather underwhelming. |
Jethro42
11.30.11 | @InAbsentia; Rainbow Rus, Swing on the Airwaves, Hesitation Walt and Porcelain are the only songs I haven't deleted from Mute. I really enjoy what's left though. |
JamieTwort
11.30.11 | 1 - 4 are great. As for recs, you've probably heard most of the prog metal I've heard. |
Jethro42
11.30.11 | Yeah same feelings about Haken, here. Great musicians but nothing too original.
Cheers, JT. |
Spec
11.30.11 | Enslaved |
Jethro42
11.30.11 | Enslaved is noted, thank you man.
@turnip, cheers! |
xenocide.
11.30.11 | Tkanks for including Indukti on your list, they need some more recognition. |
JamieTwort
11.30.11 | Actually I do have one rec:
Agents of Mercy - The Black Forest.
Only listened to it for the first time today and I'm yet to form a proper opinion but I'd say it's worth a listen. |
Jethro42
11.30.11 | @xenocide, yeah Indukti rule hard! My list includes stuff that came off the top of my head, really.
@Jamie; Sweet! Band seems to be greatly appreciated within the ProgArchives community.
|
stabbler
11.30.11 | @Jethro - if you don't think much of Burst, I wouldn't bother with Kruger. have you listened to Lazarus Bird though? A little more variation then their earlier stuff |
Jethro42
11.30.11 | Yeah Lazarus Bird contains couple of great songs, but I dont tend to listen to it too much. |
greg84
11.30.11 | Thought Industry - Mods Carve The Pig
Kobong - Chmury Nie Było
Well. They're both quite different to the albums you've listed here but they're worth checking out. Classic stuff! |
Jethro42
11.30.11 | ''Jethro asks for prog recs, four horseman exit the gates of Hell...''
hahaha well I want everything that's the best, nothing less =P
''Seriously Jeth have you ever looked into any of central european prog around in the early seventies?''
Geography was not my strenght at school but possibly, who knows. If not, do I miss something?
@Greg, I trust you in everyone of your recs, thanks a lot bro! |

Scale the Summit
Scale the Summit
Tool |
InAbsentia
11.30.11 | Scale the Summit are boring imo |
Jethro42
11.30.11 | @Roosevelt, Scale the Summit are boring according to InAbsentia.
Tool is a good call! |
InAbsentia
11.30.11 | That's right. My opinion is much more important to Jethro than yours, Roosevelt. |
Jethro42
11.30.11 | =] |
InAbsentia
11.30.11 | I'm also funnier than you are, apparently. |
Jethro42
11.30.11 | = D |
InAbsentia
11.30.11 | I'm also more smile-induc...
Alright, I'll stop it... |
RooseveltsGhost
11.30.11 | I am... displeased. |
Jethro42
11.30.11 | It doesnt take much to have fun =P |
RooseveltsGhost
11.30.11 | Scale the Summit is the opposite of boring. Often they are too exciting and I have difficulty not fighting those around me, melting faces with my air guitar, or hurting my jaw with excessive whistling. |
Jethro42
11.30.11 | oh
key
you just convinced me. |
InAbsentia
11.30.11 | You traitor! |
Jethro42
11.30.11 | lolololol |
AsoTamaki
11.30.11 | I'll assume you know about Queensryche and early Dream Theater. Some less widely-known, but equally great albums:
Arch/Matheos - Sympathetic Resonance
Deadsoul Tribe - The January Tree
Letter X - Born Into Darkness
Lana Lane - Secrets of Astrology
Dial - Synchronized |
Jethro42
11.30.11 | Krautrock/prog rock hybrid, sounds good, Thomas! Feel free to bring to me some names!
@Aso Tamaki, thanks, much appreciated! |
TheHamburgerman
11.30.11 | Aghora, got members from Cynic, cool stuff
Gordion Knot, the same
Nocturnus, formed by ex drummer from Morbid Angel. Death metal with keyboards.
Winds, calming progmetal
Planet X, a bit like Liquid Tension Experiment, cool stuff
DGM - Different Shapes (Criminally overlooked album, the rest is not as good but seeing how bothsuperb and unkown this album is makes me question a loving god)
And now some Dream Theater ripoffs,
Circus Maximus, Andromeda, Pagan's Mind, Redemption, Spheric Universe Experience |
Jethro42
11.30.11 | I dig both Gordian Knot and Planet X. I'll check out all the rest, DT's ripoffs included =] Thanks man.
Could you guys see me digging Neurosis considering I like The Ocean? |
InAbsentia
11.30.11 | YES! Especially The Eye of Every Storm. |
RooseveltsGhost
11.30.11 | I can't decide if The Oceans lyrics are awesome, or really lame. I like the subject matter, but they're not very insightful or poetic. Perhaps it's a language barrier thing...
Either way, I love the music, especially the violins and saxophone. |
Jethro42
11.30.11 | Cool, I took good note, InAbsentia. Through Silver in Blood is also an evident favorite, isn't it. |
InAbsentia
11.30.11 | It's much heavier and less atmospheric. Having said that, I think it's just as good, but I think you'd prefer TEoES. |
iambandersnatch
11.30.11 | If you haven't checked out all of Devin Townsend's stuff I would also recommend Synchestra, that has a couple of my fave DT tunes on it (triumph, which has a solo by steve vai, and pixellate), even though the last 1/3 of the album isn't that strong. Also fairly hard to go wrong with any of his newer stuff under the "project" moniker. |
Jethro42
12.01.11 | Not sure if I've given to Synchestra a proper listen with a 3/5 rating. Will revisit to see, and take a proper look at his other projects as well, thank you bandersnatch. |
