Thrice's Albums Ranked

Thrice's albums ranked best to worst minus "Identity Crisis" which I haven't heard
1Thrice
The Artist In The Ambulance

To me, this album has no filler and is in my Top 10. Every song sounds distinct, yet like there was a pretty
equal amount of inspiration behind it, and is an example of how metalcore can be done very compellingly
and with musical integrity. Also their first album showing true lyrical insight. Best tracks: The Artist In The
Ambulance, All That's Left, Don't Tell And We Won't Ask
2 Thrice
The Alchemy Index I-II

These are the most produced of the EPs, but the songwriting really rose to the occasion. The first showed
Thrice taking their post-hardcore metalcore sound to a whole new caustic, Refused-esque level. The
second expanded the ideas of "Atlantic" and "Red Sky" into plaintive, beautiful balladry. Best songs:
Firebreather, The Whaler, Kings Upon The Main
3Thrice
Vheissu

Although I think the end of the album is a disappointment, the diversity of instrumentation and style on
this album is done in a more artistically genuine way than on the Alchemy Index EPs. This album was
Thrice's first step into truly original territory. Best tracks: The Earth Will Shake, Atlantic, Hold Fast Hope
4Thrice
Beggars

I admit to being disappointed in this album's complacency and disinterest in really pushing the envelope,
and Dustin overuses the same lyrical meter a bit (The Great Exchange, All The World Is Mad, The Weight)
but this is a thoroughly fun take on the old indie/post-hardcore cliches that show Thrice's total command
of their chosen form of music. Best songs: The Weight, Wood and Wire, Beggars
5Thrice
The Illusion Of Safety

This album wasn't quite as polished, confident or powerful as The Artist In The Ambulance, and
occasionally dwells within generic punk/metalcore type sounds. Those being the only real flaws. This
album is just another facet of Thrice's ability to excel at any kind of music, and it is (very) arguably their
best "song" album. Best songs: Deadbolt, Kill Me Quickly, The Beltsville Crucible
6 Thrice
The Alchemy Index III-IV

This album wasn't bad, it just really didn't capture me and I feel like they weren't yet comfortable with this
style of music, as they later proved on Beggars. Certain songs dragged and a few seemed underwritten.
Even Thrice's worst is still worthy of a lot of respect, though, and I really like this album. Best tracks:
Broken Lungs, The Earth Isn't Humming, Child Of Dust
