DinosaurJones' Rec Contest ROUND 3!!!

Let's keep it simple this round... this round's criteria is THE POWER TRIO. This means any band/group/act that has 3 members. Swarms, for example, is a qualifying group. Blink182 would qualify. The Fall of Troy. You get the picture. No genre restrictions, no time length restrictions, no mood restrictions. Who are YOUR favorite power trios?
1Hanson
This Time Around

Obviously everyone's number one pick.
2Sigur Ros
Valtari

UniqueUniverse (Placeholder album, song is/was a single)

Ovedur - Things to expect when listening to a Sigur Ros song: beautiful music, and ethereal Icelandic wooing noises. I was not disappointed, but this song has, oddly enough, an almost industrial feeling to it, or maybe it's just that weird electronic crashing sound that keeps repeating throughout the song, which actually gets kind of annoying the longer it goes. Sigur Ros never really disappoint, but this song seems to be almost standard fare for them.

SCREAM!

La Villa Strangiato - "An exercise in self-indulgence," eh? Also almost 10 minutes long? I know them Rush boys are stellar musicians though, so let's see how it goes. I wasn't sure if this was going to have lyrics or not, seems like that's not the case. BUt damn, Alex Lifeson seems to never get the credit he deserves, dude is a beast on the strings. Everyone always goes on about Geddy or Peart, but yeah, Alex Lifeson is damn good. And... shit, it's over already. I didn't expect this to be anything less than stellar, and I was not wrong!

Christina - This is just some straightforward, fuzzy rock. Drummer beating the shit out of them cymbals, a solo, wailing vocals, and a short run time so it doesn't overstay its welcome. Just a short, to the point rocker. A good time!

I Will Lay Down My Bones Among the Rocks and Roots - 18 minutes?! Well then, I guess I'm in it for the long haul. WHOA, it just kicked right in, I was not expecting that at all. Damn, those drums! Typically the vocal style is not my thing, and... and... shit, did you just find a black metal act that I enjoy? After all the months of trying to get into Burzum or Darkthrone, you just waltz in and give me this?! I really, really like this... wow.

4.5/5 (but a 5/5 in my heart for surprising the hell out of me with this)
6Alkaline Trio
Goddamnit

Trouble Breathing - Hey, it's an Alkaline Trio song! And hey, it's a pretty good one! I've always personally been more of a Dan guy than a Matt guy, I really like the bass tone in this track, and that intro sets a nice pace. They're a band I've always been meaning to check out more, and this song really sets a nice impression along with the others that I've heard. I really like the instrumentation in this track. A nice solid song from this power trio!

Horizons / Rapture

BeyondCosby

Teratology - Ooo, I like the almost discordance of the guitar in the start of this song, along with the bass gives it a nice little tense feel. I'm actually digging the entirety of this song, especially this switchup about 2.3 through. This sort of music is right up my alley, and probably the kind of stuff I'd like to play if I could find other like-minded musicians... some of those drum fills are insane! Quite a great track for me, personally.

Be Calm - Never listened to fun. before. Went into this not knowing what to expect at all, but I'm sold on most things with violins. And I'm really digging this! It's kind of like a less obnoxious/in your face early P!ATD. This song DOES get a bit extravagant though, but never really seems over the top. A very pleasant listen, and I"ll probably be checking more.

Hail to the Queen - You're starting to pick up on my idiosyncracies now, I love that sort of chunky bass tone. It's no wonder I'm in love with the new Glassjaw album... beyond that, this is a pretty decent track, but didn't do too much to stand out for me. Not bad, but not up to your old standards!

Talking Shit About a Pretty Sunset - Am I going to get drunk, sloppy Isaac Brock slurring into a microphone for 6 minutes? No? This is actually quite a pleasant song, as I'm really only familiar with MM's later work. A pretty and introspective sort of track.I don't have much else to say about it except that I enjoyed it!

New Fang - Whoa, a supergroup that actually delivers?? What is this madness?? I've always kinda felt like John Paul Jones never got his due credit (at least among my peers), but he's a great musician. Of course, Josh Homme and Dave Grohl are no slackers, and this song is a rollicking good time! I can dig it, quite a bit!

The Difference Between Me and You...

Sinternet

Without Msg I Am Nothing - Never heard of mclusky, so no idea what to expect! The vocal style is... not exactly sitting right with me, to be honest. The music is pretty all right, though that repetitive droning bass is... well, actually the entire song is starting to become more and more grating the longer it goes on. Not quite my bag, methinks.

Drifter

Going to Pasalacqua - Some old, old Green Day, huh? I've always been kind of a mixed bag on Green Day, though this song has a nice kind of genuineness to it that a lot of their recent output seems to lack. Despite being such on old track, the production on it is really fine, and fits their sound, especially for the time. I've never checked out this album, but I'd be interested to hear more.

Dewinged

March - Oh, a song that starts with a bass slide like this is likely to be very good... and hot damn, the instrumentation here is fabulous. Oh yes, this is something I could get into... very high-octane, though I gotta say, this would be one hell of a fast march. And holy shit, the vocalist is also the drummer?! Mad props to her, that's pretty damn insane. Yo, this is magnificent... sorry butch, but Dewi takes this one by a landslide.
