Awesome Side Projects

Just some awesome side/solo projects by a number of well known bands/musicians.
1City and Colour
Sometimes

Side solo project of Alexisonfire's Dallas Green. Acoustic/folk rock as opposed to Alexisonfire's post-hardcore sound. Dallas' voice could soothe the beast inside of anyone.
2Broken Bells
Broken Bells

Side project of The Shins' frontman James Mercer and Danger Mouse. As good or even better than each's work with their own bands. Very chill, relaxing alt rock for a hot summer night.
3Thom Yorke
The Eraser

Amazing electronic album from start to finish. Think a slightly less impressive Kid A, but still excellent and unique in its own right.
4Avantasia
The Scarecrow

After the somewhat disappointing Rocket Ride and Tinnitus Sanctus from Edguy, Tobias Sammet's metal opera is a breath of fresh air. Highly enjoyable with plenty of excellent guest vocalists.
5Steven Wilson
Insurgentes

Pretty similar to his work with Porcupine Tree, except a bit more abstract and 'weird'. Has some killer tracks that definitely make it worth listening to, suck as Harmony Korine and Insurgentes.
6Them Crooked Vultures
Them Crooked Vultures

TCV is a super-group side project, made up of Foo Fighter's Dave Grohl, Queens of the Stone Age's Josh Homme and Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones. Amazing album, better than anything the first two bands have done in a while.
7Right Away, Great Captain!
The Eventually Home

Manchester Orchestra's main man Andy Hull's acoustic side project. Excellent for fans of the man's vocals and song-writing. Album is great from start to finish.
8The Postal Service
Give Up

Here's hoping for a second album, eventually. Death Cab's Ben Gibbard and Jimmy Tamborello (Dntel) make an extremely unique electronic/indie pop album that easily surpasses anything Death Cab has done in a while.
9Birds of Tokyo
Universes

Karnivool's Ian Kennedy also fronts a more alternative rock band called Birds of Tokyo. Easily accessible and catchy as compared to the dense and complex work he does with Karnivool; each are amazing in their own ways.
10Joey Eppard
Been to the Future

3's Joey Eppard released a solo album a few years ago that not many people have heard, and lots more should. Great acoustic album with excellent guitar work and solid lyrics. This guy definitely deserves more recognition than he gets.
