11.21.23 | The feeling of being immersed in the world and the overall tone - BotW
The gameplay, the story, the characters - TotK
TotK takes the cake overall and I encourage anyone who will rate BotW above to ask themselves if they could go back and replay that after having played TotK. Imho I could not.

11.21.23 | TotK. not done with it yet but all in all, def the superior game that learned so much from its predecessor/expanded on its systems in such innovative ways. i think they did a great job at recontextualizing the world with all its changes and side quests. at the end of the day, still not ideally what i wanted, was really hoping more prior 3D zelda could've been inflicted into this game somehow (dungeons are still lacking) but still, despite that, this is exactly what a sequel should be. |

11.21.23 | They're almost neck-and-neck imo in terms of overall quality, both solid 9 out of 10's but I gotta give it to TOTK. It'll be tough going back to BOTW after getting used to all the upgrades and improvements made in the sequel. |
GreyShadow
11.21.23 | the only thing BotW has going for it is the fact that it was the first and obviously plenty of those magical first time moments are going to be tied to that game. but Tears is just definitely a step ahead in about every respect |

11.21.23 | I have been struggling to make any progress in TotK, it just feels too much like BotW and I can't get into the exploration again. |

11.22.23 | The one thing I’ll say about TotK: the underground is so, so fucking useless. The size of a city with nothing interesting to do, it was a huge disappointment for me based on how talked up it was. Truly tho, Elden Ring did it first and did it so much better imo. I’m enjoying the game tho, which I’m happy about because I think BotW is a top contender in a list of most overrated games |

11.22.23 | Considering how much I love BOTW, I am surprised that I haven't played TOTK yet or even looked at the gameplay. So I prefer BOTW at the moment. |

11.22.23 | Yeah Gyro, I made the mistake of thinking I would clear the underground after doing 2 temples, gave up like 2 thirds through because my brain was numb and now my enthusiasm for the game is dead. |

While it may feel like BotW they play almost nothing alike. TotK completely recontextualizes how you do things and move around the world + there are 2 map-wide new zones.
As for the underground comment, I read nothing about the game and only watched the trailer(s) and my mind was blown when I found out that there's an underworld the size of fucking Hyrule. Btw it's far from useless, there are excellent questlined and upgrades found down there. there's just a lot of cosmetic stuff down there you might not be interested in, and visually it may not be very appealing compared to the rest of the game, but overall having not known it existed, it was a huge discovery for me and made the game feel all the more grand |
GreyShadow
11.22.23 | one of my biggest problems with both games is that most rewards feel whatever. i do think more could've been done to the underground as far as immediate gratification goes but it's still got plenty of cool shit. |

11.22.23 | Gyromania your comments seem like a reflection of the internet's general obsession with Elden Ring and Dark Souls, as the underground areas in TOTK have very little in common with the underground areas in Elden Ring other than that... they are both underground areas. Not to mention, Elden Ring borrowed heavily from BOTW. |

11.22.23 | to me you're given so much to work with from the get go that there aren't many things that you need, so rewards for doing shit are kinda not neccessary as far as needing better items or what have you. you can already cheat your way through almost everything just by using your creativity, which, and this will sound cheesy, makes just playing the game itself and discovering new ways to use the existing abilities a reward unto itself. I mean what the hell kind of reward do i need for clearing a monster camp if i'm doing it 30 ft from the ground with a makeshift flying saucer with lazurs and cannons |

11.22.23 | I genuinely fail to see how anyone can say BOTW is a better game. Which aspects of it are better? It may have been more enjoyable to you because it was fresher, but TOTK is just better in every single way. |

11.22.23 | This makes me excited to play totk down the road. I beat botw for the first time a few months back, so will wait a bit before playing the sequel |

11.22.23 | I feel like the main hurdle for me with TOTK so far is the heightened difficulty and that's mainly because I'm bad at games. I love the explorative nature of both games which is why I'm so deeply drawn into them. I'm only partially through TOTK so far because I'm real slow but I can definitely see it overtaking BOTW as my favorite game of all time. BOTW's story does hold a special place in my heart though as well as the comfort it gave me during hard times. |

11.23.23 | luckily these games are forgiving to people who are bad at games in terms of, if you want to, you can do shit over and over until you get good at it without any repercussions. i do hear a lot of people saying TotK is difficult, I don't particularly see it, especially if you played BotW before, I kinda went straight in and wrecked combat, especially with the new arrow system. the only problem is the monsters start scaling pretty fast so if you don't get enough hearts early and are not very good at setting up for combat you're in for a rough ride in the beginning/middle part of the game. It gets a lot easier when you get the hang of everything though.
I think the main thing that makes it seem more "difficult" is just that some of the settings are just scarier than in BotW like the caves or the underground. the music also goes crazy and the horriblins / froxes are pretty damn intimidating at first. to me nothing about the games is frustrating even when i'm failing so just take it slow and easy, you'll eventually get there. it's the journey, not the destination that's important in these games, and they do such a lovely job of reaffirming that over and over.
I'm done with practically everything except for confronting the big bad, and I love the game so much that I don't want it to end so I just left it to marinate. did the same with BotW. Really special games, to me by far the best single player games I've ever played |
