I've had to learn the hard way to not engage with certain people on here or get too involved in discussions because it's just bad for my mental health. I go thru phases of being like "fuck these people" but then I remember for every egotistical troll there's like 10 really sweet supportive people who actually just love talking about music.

Given the music-nerds we all are, it is ofc challenging to be bullied for one’s taste, since it is our deepest aspect of personality. Troll-nerds feed on this, ‘cause they’re psychos and compensate for their insecurities for appearing overly confident. But they’re just wankers, the real deal if one resonates with you. Just remember that in music there’s no ground-truth, which is the beauty of it all. We are indeed real, and we’re here to share our feelings & thoughts, for whatever reason we feel the urge to do so. Maybe it’ll take some time, but you’ll have this urge again. And then, come back, wanker-proof!

myri14 04.22.24	Sorry for the ridiculous wall of text but your post resonated with me and I have some stuff to get off my chest I secretly not so secretly really like the clashing personalities because it seems like people have a healthy amount to say about the music they're passionate about. On the one hand, users have unique obscure stuff they're super passionate about, but on the other hand it seems that there's those albums and bands out there that a lot of people have stuff to say about which leads to reviews and discussions with meaty points being made. There's contingents of people who like electronic dance music and contingents of people who like metalcore, etc, and it's really fun to band together with your crew who all like the same style and discuss classix, new and old gems, and maybe even stuff that didn't go over so well for you but person X and person Y really felt something with it. I suppose that's where the arguments start. I think because of the difficulty of getting your point across on the internet about something, and people not being able to latch onto what you're saying when they're reading words and could be in a completely different mood from you, people are bound to fuck up and miscommunicate all the time. That makes me anxious to review more albums and discuss stuff sometimes but I think that this place has kind of encouraged me to break out of my shell a little because I see a lot of people somewhat aware of this fact and willing to try and work their way through it (like asking clarifying questions, admitting fault, focusing on the interesting part: the music!, etc.) But some people can really be big dicks for sure. I hope you come back at some point, I burn out with social things all the time, especially on the internet, and sometimes I just don't know what to make of things, which compels me to leave. But all things considered I do love this site.
Snake. 04.22.24	i mean i might as well come out and say that it's me who's been harassing him since he joined this site honestly dude, i'm really sorry. none (or at least not all) of my comments towards you were meant to be malicious and if it was making your time on here an absolute chore i would've back off a lot sooner. it's just frustrating seeing people use this site like it's an extension of reddit or something rather than an actual music website where people can utilize the reams of different artists/genres/movements/etc instead of miserly scratching the surface for stuff that is only gonna be grammy-nominated (and this goes for all other types of media consumption). if i scared you off because of my callous behavior and can't bring you back, it's something i just gotta live with and it's only another part of myself that i need to work on.

BAT 04.23.24	take care of yourself. i've definitely gone through periods of being jaded with any/all communities whether it's discord/yt/reddit/sput/twitter/pretty much anything, i feel like the detachment of face to face socialization leads to a lack of empathy and it's easier to take things poorer where a slight rib in person feels like a straight up attack online. i've definitely had to adjust to taking things less seriously over the years, thaan you'll have some people will just argue anything cause they enjoy the rush of proving a point or purely just to get a rise out of someone/attention. but yeah don't let that energy drag you down/stay true to yourself.

An occasional shitpost is fine, but when it's your 'go to' response then you may as well just not saying anything at all Thread comments aren't always a direct response to the reviewer and (hopefully) aren't taken personally unless the review itself is referenced. It seems unlikely some of these people even read the reviews (I don't always, but will do if I'm interested)

mkmusic1995 04.23.24	It's no secret that some people on here suck and their contribution is simply to be pervasively snobby about their taste or just to be an unconstructive asshole but those people also add to the aura of this site. I've only been here a couple years, but I feel like the push and pull of the different personalities really makes it fun to be a part of. That being said, bullying and harassment is bullshit. And Snake, I am particulary touched with your words. I am happy to see you apologize to me, and I'm glad to see you respond to what I had to say here. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, I deeply admire your ability to empathize with my point of view. I can't promise I'm back just yet -- I'm still dealing with some issues in my personal life I'd rather not disclose. But I did want to come back and thank everyone who was kind enough to comment here. Thank you, and I hope to be back here eventually.
